Game doesn't get past splash screen with "Initializing Game" in the corner

Game stays on opening splash screen - it has never got past this point.

Description​

I have tried multiple suggested fixes such as reinstalling and allowing the files within Windows Defender

Steps to reproduce​

Launch game through steam.

Right click on victoria3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.


If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/pdx_settings.json .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.txt

That system.log says game version 1.4 ... has the game not run successfully since way back then? It does say 1.6.2 in our launcher, is that right?

If you delete that file and try the game again, does it make a new one?


And, either way, please expand your Windows paging file maximum size to 32gb

Optional: Increasing the paging file size on Windows computers

On computers that have 8 GB of RAM, the suggested paging file size is 16 GB.

I had tried rolling back to 1.4 as a check to see if it would work but no difference, that must be why the log says that.

Today I have done a fresh install, followed the steps about changing paging file max size to 32gb, and reran the program with nothing else running and still no luck.

I've reattached most recent files - thank you.

I'm afraid that has not worked:

Page File: 7397MB used, 8889MB available

That's only about 16gb, and ~half of it is taken up before the game has even started! Not sure what you could be doing wrong there, but please try again!


If that doesn't help still, make a new Windows user on this computer and log into it with that. Does the game run there?

I had entered 32MB instead of 32000MB, not an expert with computers as you can probably guess!

After changing to 32000MB it now works! Thanks again for everything
