Hello I am having a problem with EU4, my game just randomly frozing and I have to close the program with task manager. This happens randomly I can even just sit on with game paused for some time and the game will just freeze no warning no crash just frozen and cant do anything. This only happens for EU4 and have happend with HOI4 too can anyone help me please?
 
If it happens with two games it is very likely a Windows or hardware issue.

When it happens can you kill the game in Task Manager then start it again okay? Or do you need to reboot?


DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .


Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 10 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install
SPEEDFAN http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

It only happpens with those games, no other games have this issue. I can kill the game and restart it and play until it freezes at some point again with no problems, but it becomes annoying to have to restart all the time. I thought it was temps too but I checked them at they are normal 60 under load and 40 with no load.

That is true of both CPU and GPU temps?

That dxdiag shows several LiveKernelEvents, which happen when the machine is forced down or rebooted - are you seeing that happen? If so is it related to these games or something else?

CPU is about the same 50-60 ish under load and 30-40 when idle.
No thats really weird I am not seeing that happen, the game just freezes completely random can be 1 hour into playing and i have to shut it down it does not even say program not responding it just simply freezes and i can either press the windows button or taskbar to get to the desktop. Not seeing any restarts of the system.

Well Windows is :D Maybe someone else using the same machine is seeing it?

Anyway you may as well apply the new hotfix, see if that helps

Why would this happen at all and could it be the reason? I was playing on the new patch and could definetly play for longer this time but it stil froze again. Never experienced of the machine shutting down or restarting
 
There are a myriad of possible causes, from game bugs to malware to hardware faults to Windows problems.

We don't think it is a game bug as everyone else would be getting it, and you wouldn't have the same problem with multiple games.

Was there any significant change or update to the machine or Windows between the last time these games ran okay, and the first time this happened to one of them?

If you run the Windows UPdate app, does it find anything to apply? If so do that and reboot please.
