I've played a few games now, and I always reach a point where the game just locks up. It doesn't seem to be a result of any particular date or anything, as I can usually grind an extra few days out, save, and then when I lock up, can resume from there for another few days. It seems to be exacerbated by increasing the speed past '1' or selecting different provinces.

Is this a common problem? It's really frustrating to get your empire to the point where you can start to take on some of the big boys, only to have the game lock up and lose all that work.

Please run DXDIAG, Save All Info, and post dxdiag.txt here (first delete everything after the Sound Devices section so it will fit). Also post your Rome/settings.txt and Rome/logs/system.log files. Note that if you use Vista/Win7 and have installed the game in the suggested folder c:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Rome\, the active versions of these last two files will have been redirected by Vista/win7 to a non-system directory, like c:\Users\[name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis - Rome\, where [name] is your Vista/Win7 user name. You may have to search your C: drive for them.

But your problem sounds like overheating. Please report the temperatures for your CPU and video 1/ just before starting the game up then 2/ after 20 or 30 minutes' play. If you have no way of reading temps, Google for and install SPEEDFAN.
