Summary

Game freezes randomly on Steam Deck

Description

I have recently been playing a campaign on Steam Deck, it was initially performing fine for the first few hours, but at some point I started to get random freezes where I had to force exit the game.

When this happened the screen would go black for a second, then come back on with the game showing again, but everything frozen and unresponsive. The game music would continue to play.

It seems to happen fairly randomly, mostly during wars, but the latest time it happened was not during a war (I was travelling back from a hunt though, if that could be relevant).

The save file attached is the latest autosave before the most recent crash.

I've also attached the error.log, it seems that when it crashes it always throws an `ErrorDeviceLost` in the logs.

On Steam Deck I'm running the latest stable version. I was previously using the 3.5 preview, but that was causing the Deck to actually crash and fully reboot, so I rolled back to stable. (Unfortunately I didn't collect any logs at that point, as I wasn't sure if the instability was CK3 specific or just a general instability with Steam OS 3.5)

Steps to reproduce

Play on Steam Deck for some amount of time, start a war to increase chances of the crash.

The game crashes with a brief black screen followed by frozen unresponsive UI.

Reactions:
Steam indicates Steam Deck is playable, but after close to 30 hours played and several game crashes, and no response whatsoever from Paradox to address this issue and a canned response from Steam, I have to say this game is not playable via Steam Deck.

If you have Steam Deck, do not buy it until Paradox makes it compatible to Steam Deck
