Hello,

I recently upgraded my system from Xp to Vista Home Premium. And now Rome doesn't work. It constantly freezes. I can move my mouse cursor and the music is playing, but everything else is frozen. I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL to get out. I've tried everything: Changed resolution, disabled trees, disabled music, tried playing in a window and i'm using Windows Xp compatibilty mode and it still freezes.

I'm not sure that was actually an UPgrade :)

Let's try reinstalling - move valued save games elsewhere then uninstall the game. Manually delete the game directory. Now install Rome but not in the suggested path c:\program file\paradox .. etc, instead use a new path like c:\games\rome or whatever. Then apply the 1.2 patch immediately.

Ok, I've tried reinstalling and it still freezes.

Edit. I looked at the Log files and there was an error.log. Maybe it will explain something?

Here's what the log says:

Those errors are normal, but you should delete or rename that file and see if they recur with patch 1.2 applied - I think most or all are fixed now.

Please post your ROME settings.txt and system.log files. Also run DXDIAG, Save All Info, and post dxdiag.txt here (up to and including the sound device section).

I deleted the file and it recurs after i start the game.

I already posted my DXdiag, but here it is again.

I see you still have renderTrees=yes, did you turn it on again or is this the wrong file? You could also try setting multisampling=0 and master_volume=-1 (this will disable all sound), let's see if that makes any difference.

It seems like setting multisampling=0 has worked. It hasn't frozen and i've been playing for some time now. Thanks for your help. :)
