Game is broken.
Bought Ultimate Colony Edition on Steam over two years ago
PC specifications are above and beyond minimum requirements
It has been my most played game since then (389 hours)
Took a break from it, for a while, to play something else
Now I cannot start a new game, it just sits on the setup screen but does not progress
Also, I cannot load an existing save game - says DLC is missing
uninstalled and reinstalled game several times
Verified the integrity of game files (no issues)
still broken
Help - this is one of my favourite games

Please uninstall the game in the Steam client, and delete the folders:

C:/users/{UserName}/documents/Paradox Interactive/Surviving the Aftermath/ (Move any valued save games elsewhere first of course!)
C:/users/{UserName}/AppData/LocalLow/IceFlake Studios/

To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

Then install the game again and try it.

All the best!

I don't know then. Did you use any mods at all?

Can you try it under a different Windows user on this machine, and on a different machine?

Haven't used any mods (never do).
Set up a different user but that didn't work.
I installed it on my laptop (which is very old and is not a gaming laptop by any stretch) and it did actually run.
However, it is unplayable on my laptop due to the low spec.

Surviving Mars & Surviving The Abyss are both still working fine.

I don't know what could be wrong in your Windows to prevent this game, only, from running.

Could you please attach here your output log and settings file? They can be found in:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Iceflake Studios\Surviving the Aftermath\player.log
Documents\Paradox Interactive\Surviving the Aftermath\settings.ini

AND DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

IF dxdiag.txt fails to attach here, rename it to dxdiag.log , or zip it up.

Sorry for the delay, I played something else for a while but would love to get back to Aftermath.

I'm really not sure what to make of that log, whether the No Sound part at the start is significant or not.

You are currently using Logi USB Headset as your audio output, if you switch to one of th eother output channels using a different driver, does that help at all?

You may as well update thet Nvidia driver to March 2025 https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
If GeForce Experience or the Nvidia app are running after that, exit them before starting the game.

Then we come to these errors:

Rewired is not initialized. Do you have a Rewired Input Manager in the scene and enabled?
I don't really know what to make of those! You don't have any Unity or other such development tools in use, do you?

Please install and run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach that here please.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!
I have a switchable USB hub that takes all my peripherals, so I can easily switch between my work laptop and gaming PC.
I recently switched to the wired Logi headset for my work calls, but still had a lineout to my PC speakers.
I unplugged the USB headset from the hub and everything is now working fine.
Thanks again, I really appreciate your help. I knew it had to be something dumb I was doing. :)
