ok i just saw the "*** You Must Read This Before Posting *** " thread and still i didnt know where i should post this, but i will post it here. Sorry if it isnt the right place to do it, but i really could use some help because i really like CK

the problem is:
the game is too slow: i tried all "game speed" options, and they have all the same problem, when one day passes, the game stops like 3-4 seconds, and then continues
i have noticed the same problem in eu2 and in hoi (either when a major power is fighting another major, or when more then half the world is at war) but in CK it is caotic

i tried the latest patch, the beta, and even tried playing without any of those and still it is slow. i also made a full instalation, just in case

the game requirements are: a P3 450mhz, 128mbs RAM, 600mb of hard disk and a 4mbs graphic card

i have a: P4 1800mhz, 512mbs RAM, 5gbs of hard disk free, a 64mbs graphic card and i am using windows ME

any tips on how i could fix this "speed problem"?

Please help me…pretty please…with sugar on top *laughs*

P.S. sorry if my english isnt perfect, but it was the best i could do, thanks

Check out the FAQ on the subject in the Victoria Support forum, Everything in it applies equally to CK.

i just finished reading the "My system feels sluggish. What's wrong?" FAQ, thanks for the info, i hope CK runs smoothly :)

I think the renaming of that file works in CK as well.

Well, sorry to say but that didn't help much. I even sent PMs to jpd, he told me how to change the AGP aperture but that didn't do anything. I tried the other things as well, and CK is very slow even in SP mode. Now i tried to play MP with some guys, and they were already like 4 months ahead of me (by the way, i have 4mbs cable conection, and wasn't using a router and we were playing with Below Normal speed, if that helps anything). Another strange thing that i noticed, is that when i join any channel in Valk Net, i always get a CTD. Is someone able to help me? I would appreciate. Thanks.

All MP related issues should be asked in the MP forum.
As for the slowness in SP, do you play any other non Paradox games and do they have any problems?

If i said i had a P4 1,8 GHZ, then of course there are some games that are pretty slow, for example Cossacks II. Apart the games that require processors higher then 1,8 GHZ, my pc works pretty well. Games like Empire Earth, Warcraft 3, Age of Mythology, Rise of Nations work perfectly, even with resolution on its highest levels and even with maximum population allowed. Even Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron 1 work without problems (that is, if i am not using any mod).

Oh, sorry if i shouldn't speak about MP issues on this forum.

If you have tried everything in the FAQ then there is not much more we can do for you.

Honestly, why does Paradox sell games and put on the back of the cd case that the game requires a mere P3 450mhz if it runs slowly even in a P4 1,8GHZ?

Anyway i tried everything i could, what would be next? Buy more RAM? After all, jpd just speaks about RAM in the whole thread you told me to look for.

Because beta testers that have tried the game with P3 450 Mhz have been able to run the game well.

I am not in front of your computer so I cannot say what would be wrong with your system. You have a better system than me and the game is very playable on mine.
But when you post, rolling your eyes at me, it makes me disinclined to dig any deeper.

So I will leave you with my standard advice.
Pay particular attention to the shutting down all other programs section.
1) Make sure you have the latest patch for the game.
2) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
3) Set the color depth to 16BIT
4) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.
5) Run a Virus check and a Adware/Spybot checker
6) Update your Windows, update your Video card drivers and audio card drivers. Then repeat steps 1-4.

I can confirm the game is very slow on my computer.

I have P4 on 3Ghz, 2GB of Ram so there should be a plenty of resources for this game. The same problems on my second computer (2GhzAMDAthlon, 750Mb RAM), so I think the problem is not machine specific.

I play Europa Universalis without any problems, as well as some newest resource-hungry games.

I think the problem was introduced in 1.05 patch.

Some people have been complaining about slow downs since the game was released, there has never appeared any pattern.

Do take a look at the FAQ on the subject in the Victoria support forum, it has helped may people.

Again, i tried what you said, but it remains the same. I even tried to allocate more RAM to the virtual memory, and it doesnt work either. I even removed it, and the speed remained the same, so the problem isn't the RAM after all.

Like Kamamura, i think that the PC specifications don't matter, but unlike him, i don't think that the patch has introduced any problem. Actually, the game was already slow before it.

The only thing i didn't try yet was a Scandisk and a Defrag. I hope that works...

Did you rename the Graphics file like the FAQ suggests.
And the thing is it could be different things on different peoples systems, so it may not be memory causeing the bottle neck on your system but maybe on someone elses.

for winxp, you could try to change application priority in your game shortcut:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start /high /D"C:\GAMES\Crusader Kings\" Crusaders.exe

Just change the path accordingly. (it doesn't help much though).

Ups, what are you speaking about?
I checked this FAQ: "My system feels sluggish. What's wrong?"
http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=147392

It didnt tell me to rename the graphics folder. Anyway, i renamed the units folder and the game still remained the same. Do you want me to rename some other folder?

By the way, thanks for everyone's attention :)

Graphics FILE not folder.
This is the part I am refering to.

"there is a way around, by renaming (or deleting) the file tiles.bmp in the map folder"

Seems like the game got a little faster, but still not playable. :(

Making sure you are paused when moving around the map will help.
Other than that as I mentioned, without being in front of yur system it is nearly impossible for me to track the bottle neck in your system.
