I recently tried to play on the new update, but my game keeps crashing at 100% when I try to load into it. This hasn't happened in previous versions, so I'm unsure why it's happening now.
There was a post like this posted 4ish years ago, but none of the solutions they proposed seemed to work.

So far I've:
- Restarted my computer and Steam
- Verified file integrity
- Uninstalled and reinstalled
- Uninstalled, then deleted the Stellaris install folder and the document folder
- Added Stellaris to the exceptions section in Windows Defender
- Disabled Windows Defender, then ran Stellaris
- Run Stellaris as an admin
- Uninstalled all of my mods
- Ran Stellaris windowed
- Updated my drivers

I don't really know what else to do

Don't know if this'll be useful, but here are the logs from my most recent crash:

Right click on stellaris.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60

THEn test with a new unmodded galaxy.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here. IF dxdiag.txt fails to attach here, rename it to dxdiag.log , or zip it up.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/pdx_settings.txt and settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

I tried the above steps. Sadly, Stellaris still crashes when at 100% loading.
Here are the files as requested. I assume you mean to grab files for Stellaris and not Hoi4.
(The error.log file was empty, so I'm not sure if it will appear.) (I couldn't find an exceptions.log file in the Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/ folder.)

There's no crash in this game recorded in that dxdiag, which tallies with the lack of an exceptions.log - that tends to mean the crash cause is outside the game.

I thought I was going to see a joystick or game controller there but there isn't AFAICS - is that right?

The only issue I do see is the notorious Windows 11 24H2 version, but that wouldn't normally cause this symptom, more usually crashing while playing or a hard-hang of the whole PC.

Look in your Windows Event Viewer at the time of the most recent one of these crashes - are there any WARNING or ERROR entries at about that time?

And Please install and run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach that here please.

New Developments?
So I was looking at the Windows Event Viewer when I noticed a few Event ID 7 errors. I assumed this was a separate issue, so I looked up how to fix it. I was told to defragment and optimize my drives, after which, when I tried to open Stellaris a bit later, these new error messages appeared:

Screenshot 2025-06-02 091807.png

(In Windows Event Viewer) The Errors I found after opening and running Stellaris are as follows:
1 | Vos Basic Prov... | System | 1
7 | Disk | System | 59
1000 | Application Err... | Application | 5
1005 | Application Err... | Application | 1

The Warnings in the last hour are:
1 | Kernel EventsTr... | Microsoft... | 1
50 | exfat | System | 1
141 | exfat | System | 4
1014 | DNS Client Eve... | System | 2
100016 | DistributedCOM | System | 1
Some of these (warnings) may be unrelated, as I wasn't paying too close attention and was dealing with some ssd problems earlier.
I thought I was going to see a joystick or game controller there but there isn't AFAICS - is that right?
I have a wireless controller, but I don't connect it for most things and not at all for Stellaris.
And Please install and run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach that here please.
I installed it, ran it, and went to File > Save as Text file... and then attached that bellow

This is probably to do with your Windows User Documents folder being on OneDrive (ie MS's cloud servers). That ought to work in general, but it requires OD to be running all the time, to be syncing perfectly, and you to be online all the time.

If you didn't actually want your documents held on the MS cloud, you can change the Windows settings accordingly. Right click on Documents in the left column of File Explorer, just under This PC there. Go to properties, location - that's where you can change it to point to the old default location C:/users/{userName}/Documents
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...onedrive-f32a17ce-3336-40fe-9c38-6efb09f944b0

If however you DO want your documents stored up there, let us know and we'll look into this further with you.

All the best!

So I got off OneDrive after the cancerous experience, which is having to interact with OneDrive.
When I launched Stellaris again, I got the same error messages, this time without the OneDrive part. :(

(EDIT: Good news: I looked up the issue and found out it was Microsoft Defender being dumb, so now the error messages are gone. Bad news: when I loaded back into Stellaris at 100%, it crashed again)
(EDIT 2: I found an exceptions file in one of the most recent crashes; it looked like it might be helpful so I attached below)

MSTTSEngine_OneCore.dll appears to be a Windows module to do with Text To Speech.

Have you enabled TTS in the game? Or anywhere else in your system?

no, that's weird; I've never enabled tts? Is there anything else it could do?
I have no idea, I am sorry, I'm no Windows support expert! It's just what I see in your exceptions log.

Make a new Windows user profile on this PC and try the game under that - any better?

Sadly, no. I have to assume this is a Windows version or corrupted version problem, as it works perfectly fine when launched on my laptop. I'm going to try to repair or just reset my computer. I'll update this thread in a few days if that works.
