I'm playing an EEP GC using the 1.05 patch and I keep having problems with the game crashing or locking up. I noticed this started happening after I militarily annexed both Scotland and France at about the same time.

It seems more likely to happen when I pause the game or try to save. The game will shut itself down and bring me back to my desktop, or it would restart the computer automatically, or it would give me an error message.

Another problem I have is that sometimes the game refuses to run immediately after I put the CD into the CD-ROM. I get a message saying EU2 has caused an error in some file. I have to restart the computer while keeping the CD in the drive before it would start to run properly.

I'm using an IBM computer with Pentium 3 and 866mhz processor, 128 MB RAM, and Windows ME.

Is there anyone here who can help me get rid of these annoying problems?

Note: I have another thread like this posted in the Bug Forums. I'm starting another one here because I think it fits better in this forum.

CRASH!!!

Hi everybody,
I bought EUII some days ago: it's a wonderful game, unfortunately very often it crashes taking me back the desktop: it's very annoying, and I realize from this thread that it happens to others too. Crashes are absolutely random, although I noticed that they frequently occur when the AI is rather busy (many things happening at the same time, declarations of war, messages for sea battles etc.)

I have EUII Italian Version 1.04 (by the way, when is it expected the Italian Patch 1.05?) installed on the following PC:

- win 2000 sp2
- AMD 1800+
- RAM 512 Mb DDR
- Nvidia Geforce 4 MX400 64 Mb (latest driver)
- Hard disk 80 Gb
- DirectX 8.1

I definitely do not think it's a problem with memory: what do you think it could depend on?
Thanks for your help
By the way: it's a great game guys!!!!

and I'll need your video card brand/model as well as your sound card :)

How do I find out the model of my video card and sound card? Sorry to ask such a question, but I've never really had any experience in playing around with these settings.

I am also experiencing other problems.

1. Whenever I quit the game, my monitor's resolution is changed from 1024 by 768 to 800 by 600.

2. After I quit the game for the first time, it will not open properly if I try to run it a second time. The intro will play properly, but then I get an error message, which forces me to abort the game.

3. A few times, whenever I try to open a saved game while I am in the middle of playing a game, EU2 will crash and automatically close.

I have tried most of the applicable advice in the thread that you refered me to. However, most of these problems still remain or have shown no evidence of disappearing. I have the North American version of EU2 with patch 1.05 and the EEP. I also already have DirectX 8.1 and I have at least 3 GB left in my hard drive.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Control panel, system, device manager, under video.

these two are relateds and they are bugs. you will need to readjust your desktop and restart the computer.

this was fixed in 1.05... imho, you should uninstall the game and reinstall it as a first step.

Also note that the EEP is known to create some crashes.

there are bugs in the Italian version causing these crashes :(

second, http://www.guru3d.com/detonator-destroyer/
this will let you uninstall your drivers (clean uninstall) and then you reinstall the latest ones.

I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the game and the latest patch. I've downloaded the latest DirectX drivers, checked my system for errors, and followed the instructions in the other thread. Since some of my problems can be attributed to bugs, when will a new patch be released to correct these problems?

As for my video and sound cards, it is the "SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio" manufactured by Analog Devices Inc. It is the only thing I found under the "Sound, video, and game controllers" heading. Maybe it acts as both a video and sound card, but I'm not really sure.

Hope this helps. Thanks.

Thanks

Thanks Viper37!
I'll try to make all the changes suggested in the thread. One thing though: unless one reads forums in the web, it is nearly impossible to play the italian version.....
naughty naughty guys there at the publishing house.....

1) That problem as yet to be fixed. Paradox cannot reproduce the problem on their computers so they are acting blind.

2) that's the sound card. Sorry for misleading you, the video card will be found under "Display adapter".

In that case, my video card is an Intel(r) 82810E Graphics Controller. Anyways, other than the bugs, the problem seems to be gone for now. It only seems to affect me on a fairly rare basis. I hope Paradox fixes these problems in the new patch.
