Game lagging badly

I just re-installed HOI2 after a few months, and i'm experiencing some very bad lag and slow-downs that I definitely don't remember experiencing before. Is there any fix for this?

My system:

AMD AthlonXP 1700+
1gig RAM
GeForce 6800
using DirectX 9.0C
WindowsXP
HOI2 with patch 1.3a

Well if you did not experiance them before obviously it is nothing we can fix, sinxe logic says it is a problem with your system.

There is a FAQ on the subject in the Victoria support forum, it is stickied at the top of the forum.
Everything in it relates equally well to HOI2, including the renaming of the file it mentions.
Also make sure you have nothing running in the back ground.
