Game not launching

When i try to launch the game it will say 'running' for a few seconds before just going to 'syncing'.

I have tried reinstalling, including deleting everything in the documents folder, updating my gpu drivers and repairing the c++ redistributables.

Last time I had this problem it was with EU4 and that was fixed by updating the gpu drivers.

And yes, CK2 used to run just fine on this computer until now.

EDIT: EU4 isn't launching either. HoI4 and Stellaris work fine, however.

Did this happen after the large Windows 10 update that everyone got recently? Because that has caused a lot of problems with many of our games.

Do check that your video driver is installed okay and up to date, as the Windows update messed up some people's video driver installations:

One further thing you could try is to edit the settings.txt files of each game, and set fullScreen=no and borderless=no , as some people have reported that helped.

If still no good, right-click on the game's .exe and select Properties, Compatibility, and tick "Disable Fullscreen Optimisations". Apply and exit.

And finally, in the same screen you can try setting Windows 8 Compatibility on. Or even WinXP SP3 compatibility.


If none of that helps, DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

Well none of those things worked so i'll attach the specified files.

There isn't any settings.txt in the CK2 folder though, so I can't attach that.

Maybe tech support knows more, but just turning off Evolve or similar was a known fix in the not so distant past.
Good to know that it worked.

Evolve is a gaming VPN. You'd probably know if you had it, since you would have installed it yourself.
