Technical Problem

I have a technical problem that I need your help with please.

Game Version & Patch (incl. country): Europa Universalis 2 (Nordic) v.1.06

OS & build/SP: Win XP Home edition

Computer, CPU & speed: Compaq Presario 8780SE, Pentium 4 CPU 3 GHz

RAM: 1 GB RAM

Free HDD space: enormously

Video (brand, model, driver, memory): Radeon 9800AGP

Sound (brand, model, driver): SB Audigy Audio

DirectX Version: Direct X 9.0

Other:

I read the stickies but I still have the following problem:

Problem I: Under version 1.06 I cannot save game without CTD.

Problem II: After patching to version 1.07 I cannot get the game to start, not even without the intro avi. Instead I get fault message about CD not being in the drive, which obviously is not true since the game was running under version 1.06.

are you absolutely certain you downloaded the correct 1.07 patch?

The scandinavian version is published by panvision, if their logo is on the CD it is the nordic version you have.

Try downloading the 1.07 nordic patch again, upgrade directx as much as possible as well as you graphic adapters drivers.

after that try renaming the avi folder in the game directory to avi_old, and turn of the music in the settings.

Hope something of this helps.:)

The game is provided by Vision Park and thus the patch should be Nordic. Patch I have is Nordic version.
Direct X is at version 9.0.900 already.
Avi folder is renamed.
Graphic adapters drivers should be brand new.

Meaning that the game will still not run under version 1.07 and will not be saved under version 1.06.

What drive and directory did you install the game to?

See if any of this helps.

Scandinavian patch installation problem

FIX Part 1: originally posted by Patric
Scandinavian EU2 installation problem (setup.inx)

This is a compatibility issue with some CD readers and the copy protection.

You can download a working file here:
http://www.paradoxplaza.com/files/patches/setup_inx.zip

Try to copy the whole installation to the hd and install from there. Put the downloaded setup.inx in the same folder and off you go. I just tested it and it works like a charm.

Don't copy the *.vpp files though

If you choose to make a custom installation and play music from the CD you will have to edit the music.ini file after installation. Just change as follows:

####My installation####

[Common]
music=c:\Program Files\Europa Universalis 2\MUSIC

####Change to####

[Common]
music=X:\MUSIC

Where X is the drive letter for your CD rom drive. After that you can delete all the installation files you copied manually from the CD.

The Danish version...had the reputation to be extremely crashy because of the translation. There is a file called text.csv that contains all texts in the game. In this file, some mistakes were done wich leads to CTDs.

Your best bet is to apply the 1.10 patch and then apply this patch:
http://www.paradoxplaza.com/files/EU-English.exe (which will fix it but) your game will be in English though

Problem is I have already tried this.

Installing from hd and replacing setup file. Removing avi folder and turning music off.

I don´t get the problem with the Danish version. The game is in English and is not translated into any language. And by the way I am Swedish.

Look at the self help thread, locate the Uninstall instruction about a third of the way down the thread, follow the instructions there for removing EU2 from your system.

Then start with a fresh install from the CD if possible.

See if that version works properly for you and report your findings back here.

Registry file: edited
Installshield information: File setup.ini containing "europa" not found.
Temp directory: deleted
Diskdefrag: completed
Drive: E: DVD drive; F: DVD/CD writer
Drivers: Direct X 9.0.900.
DX diag: No problems reported. Test runs ok.
EU2 full installation completed in default directory from CD.
Nordic patch 1.07 applied.
Antivirus, firewall, screensavers: turned off.

Unfortunately I did not find out any way to turn off the autorun or the DMA settings of the drives. Nor the cache size (for XP).

EU2 settings: music turned off.

Result: Fault message "EU CD not found. Please insert CD in drive"

I tried the rest of the stuff like running binkplayer (?) which was not on my HD. I renamed the avi folder etc. Result the same.

I wanted you to NOT install the 1.07 patch!

I want to know if the fresh install off the CD will work?

By the way when you do a fresh install from CD what version number is it.

Aha. Version 1.06 installs fresh off the CD and plays well except for the fact that I am not able to save the game. No difference from earlier.

Version 1.06 functions even with avi and sound/music on.

I was hoping patch 1.07 would allow me to eventually save a game.

Look in the EU2/Scenario folder and tell me if there is a folder called "Save Games" exactly like that minus the quotes ofcourse.

Okay we are making progress, whe have got you able to play 1.06. :)

Now if you do a fresh install, then put the save directory in, then install the patch 1.07. then install the latest beta patch Nov 26.

How does that go?
