I think that’s everything you asked for in the sticky.

The problem is that when I start hoi2, the screen goes black and the pc freezes almost immediatly. There a no error messages.
I used to play Hoi2 about a year ago and it worked fine, since then I've installed a new graphics card. I have tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling but to no avail.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Others may be able to give you better advice than I can give you. But here is a quick and easy thing you can try that might help:

Find the folder named 'avi' it should be right off the Hoi2\ folder.
Rename the folder to 'aviold'. Then try to load the game again.

This avi folder contains the bink video, and by renaming it you will bypass the intro video. This has been known to solve similar problems as what you are getting.

You might also want to check the driver for you new video card, to make sure you have the latest version installed.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I've found out what the cause is. I basically turned off all my applications and tried hoi2 and it worked. Eventually narrowing it down to Webroot Desktop Firewall Version 5.5.10.20.
This firewall also looks at applications and if something starts that it doesn't recognise it stops it and asks if you want to allow this application to run, but for some reason with hoi2 it just freezes the pc.
So I can get around it by exiting the firewall, of course this leaves my pc vulnerable so I also diconnect from internet.

I think the problem is with Webroot firewall, rather than Hoi2. I'll contact them.

edit: The solution is to add hoi2.exe to webroot process and application list and select 'allow all', this way I can leave the firewall on and run hoi2.
Just in case anyone has the same problem.
