Hello, this is my first post and I'm not sure if this has been answered on this forum before, but I have got a problem with HoI. I just got a new computer and I'm runnin windows XP. I'm still using my old HP S70 Monitor. Now when I start up HoI (1.03b) the buttons are magnified really big and everything in the startup screen is all big. When I start up the game I don't notice any differences in the map sizes, but the top and side bars with all the options are either too big or too small depending on what I change in the HOI SETTINGS. Any help would be appreciated.

How big is the monitor? Not much you can do about the size beyond HoI_Settings or a different monitor. Note that the opening menu is always in 800x600 resolution regardless of the game resolution set with hoi_settings. I find 1024x768 to be fine on a 13" LCD (same size as 14" CRT) and 1280x1024 is good for anything larger. I would only use 800x600 to improve performance on a slow computer.

There are some things you can change.
Match the game res to the desktop res.
Play with 16BIT color.
make sure display size is set to 96DPI
and Font size is set to normal.
Make sure you do not have extended desktop select, that is where your desk top res is actually bigger than your monitor res so that you can scroll around the desktop.

The monitor is 15". I have noticed what you said too, that the opening screen dosen't change with the HOI settings. If I change the HOI SETTINGS resolutions, it makes it big to where the ingame menu on the right side of the screen runs off the edge, or it makes it way too small to where it's on the screen, but it's tiny. I don't know why it does this, the system was special made by my friend, and I just plugged my monitor and other stuff into the new tower. Is it possible that I might have to get a bigger monitor if I want the game to show right?
It could just be a case of you needing to adjust the size of the picture.

Check your refresh rate in the display settings (Advanced button-Monitor tab). Could be too high for your monitor. Is your monitor model recognized by Windows or shown as "Plug and Play monitor" or "unknown monitor"? From what I got from a Google search it looks like HP Pavilion S70 is a 17" CRT (16" viewable) and might be a rebranded Panasonic S70 which has a 75Hz maximum refresh rate at 1024x768 and a maximum resolution of 1280x1024.
