Minutes sounds a bit slower than usual, but the end-of-turn calculations are pretty slow. It's not something you can fix in settings. It's core computation for the game (particularly the AI), not graphics.
Playing smaller games may help. A better computer might help a little. Mostly, cultivating patience and hoping that Kerberos will manage to optimize the end-of-turn processing is all we've got.
I'm now on lap 500, since I have about 300 rounds minutes lap times of at least 5. This is not a state anymore, it's been very frustrating to play the game, I really have no desire to torment me through the game!
And it can not be. One small Map with little AI players must choose or want to just play very sensible, but I have not bought me the game
