Hello,

I hope this hasn't been posted about before but here goes. I am playing the Age of Exploration scenario and it is about 1750. I keep experiencing complete stops in the game. It started in about 1715 and has been happening regularly for the last 40 years and I am now starting to get frustrated by it, over 30 reloads to get through 40 years of game play. The game time just stops, if I try to do anything in the options menu except surrender the game completely freezes and I have to a hard shutdown. I hardly ever play this late into a game but I was trying to finish this one. Is this normal late in the game or could there be something wrong with my game. I have had EU2 since it came out and have updated patch and no mods installed. I am running WINXP, on a 2.0GHZ Pent 4 with 512MB and GeForce graphics card. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry I see this is discussed below please merge the threads MODS, and sorry for missing the other post.

Thanks for the help Viper but that doesn't seem to be the problem as I have 4.0.7.2 driver installed already. I have had them installed since before I started this game. Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Juice

stops too!

I would like to add to this one since I have pretty much the same problem.
The game just locks up, not even possible to return to desktop this is relly odd, since i have only just started having the problem recently, but have been happily playing EU2 on the smae machine for a year or so.
have tried a complete re-install, also detinator destroyer, as recoimmended, also turned off graphics hardware acceleration, and am now working on a dirextX re-install, also another attempt to move to a suitable driver for the TNT2 card.
any thoughts gratefully noted.

Would you say that the clock stops? You still have control over the mouse cursor but time does not advance? If so Johan has diagnosed and fixed this problem for next release. It was caused by sending infinite merchants in certain circumstances. There is a way to edit savegame to avoid this... Go through and increase the tradetech on anyone below tradetech 3.

Stops too,

Yes, mine is stopping too, and I advanced every little nations tradelevel to level 4. (first 3, no effect, then 4, still freeze.)

I have found a solution though, but it is not a good one; I declare war!

More info: Before the clock stops, I can see and feel that the mousecursor is moving with greater and graeter difficulty, so appareantly some heavy working is going on in the background. When I declare war in these circumstances, the mousecusor starts to fly again.

Please help me, fast, I have been playing this campaign for 2 weeks now.

We've been discussing this in the "The clock stops" thread below. The only temporary solution I've found is to manually delete almost all merchants in the save file... but then the problem will happen again in 5-10 years. If you really need to play, you can do that. Otherwise you can do like me and wait for 1.06.

Juice, is this one of your big mp games? It happens frequently in multiplayer when the infinite merchant bug (as mentioned above) occurs and when the game engine goes overload. If this is one of your big games the problem may be that every is making so much money that the engine can not take all the large numbers. This was a problem in MGC4 so you may want to question Mowers or someone on how it was dealt with.

Yeah. I'm afraid that it's a known bug and I'm fairly confident (say 99% sure) that it will be resolved in 1.06. I don't know exactly when that will be released, but it probably won't be terribly long from now. Except for going through every 5-10 years and deleting merchants, all you can do is save the game as it is now and then resurect it with 1.06. Sorry about that. :)

I was just going to write a bug report about this problem when I made a search first and found this!

From my findings it was apparent it had something to do with merchants so it feels fine that Johan hopefully has solved this.

I would just like to add a little helpful advice to what Morfeus said.

As he indicated you can make the AI wake up. You do that by creating a stability hit for yourself. To DOW without CB is one alternative. A simpler one is to cancel a trade agreement (everyone of course have a lot of them :). That costs 1 stability point. Or making a DP slider movement.

However. The TA trick does not always work. From 1 to 4 cancellations has been necessary for me, 2 on average I'd say.

Well, my wealth in the game I am presently playing is so great relatively my stability cost that I retake one stab level in less than a month. So I can live with it. Couple it with the vatican cheat code to get diplomats you need for cancelling and making TAs (and editing the save file, giving you the money you have lost from having your income going to stab recovery instead of to the tereasury) and you can play the game. But it is awful. Lucky for me I am presently in a build up period before the BB-wars. Had it been earlier or later in the game it would have been extremely irritating. E.g. you cannot just save and reload again and again when you are making massive assaulting since assaults stops when you save and reload (a bug initself one could say).

How weird!

At the bottom of my post above it says it was made at Christmas Eve (the 24th) at 03.35.

The actual time and day is Dec 23rd 14.35 local time (GMT + 1, i.e. Sweden).

On my screen the information at the bottom say:

All times are GMT +1 hour. The time now is 03:35.

Can anyone explain this!

You know, I've been wondering about that for a while now and still haven't figured it out. Time runs differently in Sweden I think. :D

Thanks for your advice above. Hopefully this won't be necessary for very much longer. :)
