Tried both major mods over the past few days and had to abandon both games due to instability issues. After just 3 years in Epigoni, the game would crash upon any attempt to save. Magna Terra lasted a bit longer until 499 but it crashes within a few months of loading a save game. Its too bad. Both seem to add some nice new content to the game and my new computer can actually run them at a very fast speed.

If the game crashes while saving, I find it's often because there are too many big files in the savegame folder. Try deleting a few old ones (I like to have just two savegames for every campaign, not including autosave) and there might be fewer problems. Not sure why it'd be happening after only three years, though: normally it happens after about 50-60 years for me.

As for Magna Terra, it's not surprising that a mod of that scale has a few crashes every now and then. If it's reproducible, try posting it in the MT subforum. Someone else might have found the problem and might know how to fix it (or at least circumvent it). If not, then you might even be the one to help squash a persistent bug.

Autosave and big saves is a bad combination. I usually play with autosave off.

Interesting, I may have made a few saves near the beginning of the Epigoni game but I've made lots more under vanilla before I run into issues. I will have to test to see if Epigoni saves are a lot bigger than vanilla ones. Wouldn't surprise since they added so many new gameplay elements. I really would like this mod to work since the 465 Seleucids are a lot more balanced with Lachimachus occupying Asia Minor.

The Magna Terra game crashes when an AI nation tries to annex the illyrians. Posted a message about this in the MT thread/forum. Funny how there is a whole subforum devoted to MT yet all comments seem to be herded into a single megathread.

Edit: Hmm, Magna Terra saves are over twice as big as vanilla.

Nope. Have the problem with Epogni with only the autosaves in the folder. Crashes when trying to save after loading the autosave for 471. Really pisses me off since I have just crushed the Selecuids as Egypt and was about to take most of their empire thanks to the "we have conqured" event.

I can't remember why but Ive allways played with autosave off for every paradox game. Ive never crushed due to save related issues so maybe this is key :)

I have experienced the same problem with Epigoni. I started with auto-save once a year and it first worked well until some year it crashed when auto-saving. I loaded the last save before that and tried to continue without auto-save, but it still crashed whenever I tried to save the game. I tried two more campaigns in which eventually the problem occured too.
Since I had no idea how it could be fixed, I just emptied the cache before starting the game. Curiously I have not experienced this crash after that. It's been only one try, though. Could be coincidence.

Thanks for posting Lysimachos.

My pleasure.

What do you mean by "emptied the cache" ? Can you clarify what you mean, save games or map?

map\cache. As I said before, it could be coincidence, but my experience suggests now, that when I delete the map cache before starting the game, I don't experience a crash upon saving, but when I don't do that, it will crash.
I have to add though, that it has worked fine at the beginning.

Cool name BTW :)

Thanks, yours too. I find Lysimachos a fascinating person, who became a tragic figure. Did you know he arouse the envy of Alexander, because he was a better lion hunter than him? :) Epigoni finally gives me the opportunity to play as him; there are not many games out there doing that.

Deleting the map cache seems to sort out autosave issues temporarily, as reported here. It also fixes "corrupt" savegames that won't load after such a save crash.

Thanks for posting this, I wasnt aware of it. I might create a "Performance Issues" thread in Epigoni sub forum so that this info doesnt get lost.

Yes, I have read a fair bit about about him and have a book specifically on him. The flag I created for him is based on his coinage and refers to the lion episode. Its a shame he murdered his son Agathocles otherwise his dynasty might have carried on with some significance. I am glad you are enjoying playing him in Epigoni. His kingdom always seems to survive. :)

Correct. Tried starting 2-3 games under Epigoni, and within 3-6 years, I start crashing under any attempt to save. Tried various combinations of cleaning out the save folder and the map cache to no success. These are not C++ runtime errors (I have gotten those before but only very rarely). However, vanilla 2.32 is very stable for me.
