Garisoning Stronghold ?

Is there any point in garisonning a stronghold ?

I struggle to achieve this anyway, as it is a bit counterintuitive (albeit logical) to place a Knight with army there, and then detach the knight and some troops away (if you do it the other way round, the knight stay on the stronghold spot, and the lonely, fixed troops appear outside the walls).

Actually no need to defend the stronghold. If the enemy takes it return in few turns and take it back.
