I just got Emperor and the game runs fine through the .exe but when I click on dowser the launcher appears with a "General Error, something went wrong while initializing the launcher" in details all I see is "{ }"
Any help would be appreciated as I really want to use mods. Thanks.

Please try this:

- exit the Steam app entirely
- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

I followed the instruction and it had me re-login, however once I logged in it went right back to the blank screen.

We are aware of the issue that's currently affecting some customers. We're looking into it but sadly have no estimate on when it will be sorted. For now though what you could try is the following:

1. Disconnect from the internet
2. Start the launcher and sign out (if you're still signed in)
3. Reconnect and see if the launcher loads as normal (we think the issue is the account login part)

If it doesn't, then running the .exe file from the installation directory or running the game whilst offline is the current workaround until we have it fixed.

Sorry about that!

I just recently today had this happen a few times; even before I could load a game.
I know it is a few years old, but this just began to happen; so it is clearly not fully solved.
Why or how? Not really something I'd know, but I wanted *you* folks to know about that bizarre happening set.

Since we've has no other such reports for over 3 years, I'm pretty sure that issue was resolved back then.

Your error is identical to the one in the OP here?

Well, here's the thing: the launcher kept on saying "General Error" and it didn't specify *what* error precisely- so I can neither confirm nor deny that, as I lack sufficient data on the nature of precisely what the general error was.

Can I get those lauuncher logs I asked for please?

I don't think you asked me for logs; but when I tried to operate the system, it said "general error" and gave a LOT of vague data; I went through the validating of the files regarding the game in question- and the launcher goes pretty predictably into general error and refuses to launch fully.

I don't think you asked me specifically for logs; but here's such a file; as of the last time it happened, or what I *think* it was:
It wouldn't attach the files for some reason as yet unbeknownst to me.
But the game launcher consistently says "general error" and it refuses to launch- especially if I go through the mods available.

So when I say "in this folder are some .log files" then "Please attach them here", you don't think I'm asking you to attach those log files here?

Please just go to that folder, and drag-and-drop the *.log files you see there over your next reply here. Or use the Attach Files button below the text box you type in.

Log files wouldn't attach; it failed to submit them.

There's a bug in this forum software that prevents dxdiag.txt from attaching, but only that one exact filename - the launcher logs will attach just fine. I get them almost every day, we know this works!

What exactly happens when you drag and drop them on a post you are writing, or use the Attach Files button? Any error show?

What if you zip them up, any different?

They just plain don't attach, and the zip files option I've long had operational trouble with; it simply has begun some little while ago when I go into the modifications to choose them to kick out with a general error.

I can only guess this is some local issue. Please try a different browser, or an incognito/private page in the one you are using now.

Well, that's kind of the problem; as usually when I use Steam and Paradox I'm not using the internet aside from indirectly to dial in to use the game library; I don't have any browser active at the time.
I *might* try an antivirus scan of some kind, maybe malwarebytes just to double-check, but I don't think so.
It did hit once I had added in some mods to the steam via paradox activity, but that shouldn't have happened at all.

Malware is not going to be stopping you from attaching files here.

What I'm asking you to do is when you are posting into this forum, to use a different browser than you normally do, or an incognito/private page in the one you are using now. Nothing to do with accessing your games in Steam or Paradox, I'm just trying to get those log files so I can diagnose your launcher problem!

I kind of did: I use two browsers, and it didn't make really any difference; but also: the readout of the general error (and I truly searched for any topics that would correlate with the problem I was having- and this one from a few years ago came up); the browser is not the problem with the logging in; universally due to the workload I am not logged on, at least not *officially* when I am going into Steam- but it says a lot of detailed info that frankly makes little to no sense.
I might try incognito, but I'd have to research more in how to do that

Somehow I'm not explaining to you clearly enough what I want, which is nothing to do with logging in. Let me try again.

As I understand it you've been able to find the launcher logs, here:
C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/

Is that right? You see files in there that end in .log ?

If so, I need to read those files. Simply drag and drop them onto a post you are writing here. OR zip up that entire folder and drop it on your next post here.

Or is it that you ARE doing that but they do not appear here? If that is the situation, I don't know what is causing it, but perhaps you could make them available to me in some other way, such as a Google Drive or Dropbox link.
