Ok, this is my first proper game using DAIM, so maybe I shouldn't read too much into it, as the AI can always be a bit unpredictable.

Playing as the UK, my spies kept telling me that Germany was focussing on building a stronger navy while Japan was focussing on building infantry divisions, even after the defeat of China.

I know the in-game information from spies is rarely very accurate, but I thought that this didn't seem like a good way for Germany to do Barbarossa or Japan to threaten the Pacific, so I loaded up as Germany and Japan to see what they are actually doing.

I found that Germany's build queue had some infantry and tanks but was mostly full of submarines. I'm not sure if the trigger for Barbarossa starting is the same as in vanilla (Germany's army must have 80% as many divisions as the Soviets IIRC), but if this is the case then Barbarossa may not even start as the Soviets currently have around 350 divisions against around 200 for Germany, as of March 1941.

Looking at Japan the first time, almost the whole build queue was convoy transports. I'm not sure exactly how many they need to supply an aggressive army but this does seem like a plausible build strategy. When I looked again after all those serial runs ended, they have now switched almost entirely to building Marines. These are also potentially useful, but they still don't seem to be doing much to expand their navy. They have 7 CVs, which means they have obviously built some since the game started, but I'm thinking that even if they started now on building new ones they're probably leaving it a bit late to have a significant chance to dominate the Pacific.

Hello Nukeface ,
thank you for your reply.
The problem with convoy transports and AI-Modding is, you can hardly mod it.You can allow the AI to do it but the AI uses ist only when necessary but then more than enough.
Maybe there is space for tweaking.

2 Questions:
What was the exact date ?
Which difficulty level do you play ?

Greetings

Ok, I have never tried AI modding, so I didn't know that about convoy building; thanks for all the time and effort you have put into making this mod.

I can't remember the exact date, but the first time I looked was probably November 1940, then I noticed that all Japan's serial builds of convoys were due to end in January 1941, so I looked again in February and saw they were building Marines.

I am playing on Normal/Normal, but have modified the difficulty settings slightly so that the Comintern gets a penalty to IC/Resources etc, as if it was on Hard. I did this because I wanted to make it more likely that Germany would get the Bitter Peace. I have also modified some of the events so that the USA remains more isolationist and does not gear up for war or help the UK by lend-lease etc. I hope these changes would not be enough to make a major difference to the AI in general.

I noticed that you (or G'kar) have said that you should use the Aggressive setting to get the best performance from the AI, but I did not know that when I started the game, and I'm not sure it would be a good idea to change in the middle of the game - but I'll try that next time.

An update on the game: It's now July 41. Barbarossa started but Germany does not seem to be advancing very fast, and was in fact pushed back immediately in some areas. There was no war with Greece or Yugoslavia, and Japan is still building marines.
