Ok, this is my first proper game using DAIM, so maybe I shouldn't read too much into it, as the AI can always be a bit unpredictable.
Playing as the UK, my spies kept telling me that Germany was focussing on building a stronger navy while Japan was focussing on building infantry divisions, even after the defeat of China.
I know the in-game information from spies is rarely very accurate, but I thought that this didn't seem like a good way for Germany to do Barbarossa or Japan to threaten the Pacific, so I loaded up as Germany and Japan to see what they are actually doing.
I found that Germany's build queue had some infantry and tanks but was mostly full of submarines. I'm not sure if the trigger for Barbarossa starting is the same as in vanilla (Germany's army must have 80% as many divisions as the Soviets IIRC), but if this is the case then Barbarossa may not even start as the Soviets currently have around 350 divisions against around 200 for Germany, as of March 1941.
Looking at Japan the first time, almost the whole build queue was convoy transports. I'm not sure exactly how many they need to supply an aggressive army but this does seem like a plausible build strategy. When I looked again after all those serial runs ended, they have now switched almost entirely to building Marines. These are also potentially useful, but they still don't seem to be doing much to expand their navy. They have 7 CVs, which means they have obviously built some since the game started, but I'm thinking that even if they started now on building new ones they're probably leaving it a bit late to have a significant chance to dominate the Pacific.
