So I was playing CK1, and playing as Toulouse, I did the whole Aquitaine trick (wedding Agnes d'Aquitaine to get the extremely wealthy duchy under your control), but the old ruler stubbornly held on, and didn't die.

That got me thinking. In real life history, claims to an inheritance were often pursued by rulers in the name of their child, even before the old ruler died. Why not do this in CK2? Basically, if your child has a claim, you can get the claim yourself for much more prestige, and if you succeed in gaining the inheritance through war, your new vassals won't like you as much, because you didn't wait for the inheritance to go through legally, but you will still have it.

Would this be doable in CK2?

It's not only sons, or even relatives. Kings and powerful dukes often advanced claims of their loyal retainers to install a puppet on a neighbouring throne. And true a kind of forced marriage at times turned out to be the peaceful solution to the problem.

Indeed! I'd like to have that be a mechanic in CK2, as it happened enough in RL. I suppose the "retainer of an enemy arrives at your court" is a low-key version of this, but I'd like a claim system that allows you to get a claim for not yourself, but for a friendly courtier-made-ruler.

The flip side of that would also be interesting. You want peace with me? Fine, your daughter will marry my son, then my son will inherit both kingdoms.

Exactly. Again, it's what happened a lot in RL, so I'd like to see it in CK. A weak ruler could fend off a strong one by promising his daughter, and spend the rest of his days frittering about the inheritance and attempting to assassinate the son-in-law.

i want to claim in the name of any claimant, as the king of scotland or denmark invade england to install the Ætheling on the throne and oust the normans or back one side of a civil war, i.e. Anarchy, War of the Roses etc.
ive often thought a variation of the EUrome preferred heir mechanic could be borrowed and expanded on for this.
