Getting error - Excel file not found

Hello, and welcome.

I'm a big fan of Paradox games. I have Hoi2D, Ricky, EU3, and CKDV, which is my most recent purchase. I installed it onto my external hard drive, and it worked great. I patched up to 2.1b, and I've been playing for a few weeks. Recently, I started getting an error on startup. When I open the game, before it starts to load the AVIs, it pops up an error box saying:

...excel file not found
...
Do you still want to continue?

Since that first occurred, I tried taking the hard drive to three different computers, as well as re-applying the patch. It started to work on a different computer for a little bit. I decided that I wanted to try out the excellent DVIP. When I tried to open it after installing DVIP and the addon pack for it, I started getting the error again. I'm going to assume that it's not directly related to DVIP, but rather installing DVIP caused the error to re-trigger.

I would prefer not to have to reinstall, but if I must I will. I would submit my system specs, but since I have tried it on three different machines, with not change, I figured that it was not system specific.

Now, once I get that, rather than just crashing, it is crashing with the following message:

*** Unhandled Exception Detected!
Address: 0x7BBC25CAC

That is after I click okay on the excel error.

The 'Excel file not found' error indicates that the game's exe cannot find or cannot read one of the configuration files. Probably one or more of these files are inaccessible or corrupted.

Without additional info it's hard to say which is the case here, but somehow I suspect the external harddisk is the case. Can you try installing CKDV locally and see if the same errors occur?

That did not fix it. I went ahead and tried a full reinstall onto my external hard drive. I tried it once I had patched it up to 2.1b, and it worked fine. Once I installed DVIP and the addon pack, I started to get the error again.

Should I move this discussion into the DVIP subforum or their forum at Terranova?

Not necessary, I can't do anything about this error. It's caused by the game not finding its files... not an error somewhere in one of the mod files

I managed to fix it by reinstalling onto my computer proper, then uninstalling and reinstalling onto my external hard drive :wacko:
