Duke of Saxony's post in CK vs MTW got me thinking.
If you have a son who is so stupid that even picking his nose is a challenge to him and he's the heir, what chances are to get rid of him and place that well-educated, smart and much more valuable second son as the next king?

Basically, can you send the poor bastard into suicide mission and hope the enemies will give you back a fresh corpse?

Can you change the laws so that the second son can be made the king?

Can you assassinate your own flesh and blood?

Can you send him to a plague-infested province to "keep the morale of poor citizens high" and hope this will solve the problem

Can you send him to monastery?

Can he be abducted by aliens? :p

And what will the drawbacks be?

I would still send those idiots into a crusade :D , but I would much more prefer to appoint the best qualified as new king or should better say duke ;) .
In the "Lion" AAR you could see a screen with different laws that allow you to influence you who will take the throne after your death. There was also an "elective law" , too. I guess this is what should simulate the election of german kings/HRE emperors in the late stages of the game.

Ps.: I would also like to see some degenerated kings  , but not in my dynasty
Pps.: Elective law might be exactly what you wanted, elect your heir, but could also be your vassals electing an heir (as HRE in late midages till 1806)

Well.. getting tagged with the trait "kinslayer" does not do any wonders for your reputation.

That will not save them from a hopeless mission into the desert :D . I hope the game is not that intelligent to notice that all sons with bad states die that way ;) . I wouldn´t assasinate them, wont get my hands dirty.

In other words: you CAN kill your own son ... just don't get caught.

I love this game and I haven't even played it yet .... :D

hahahaha in EU2 I used to give my bad gerneals 1000 infrantry and have them shipped to canad's north to a un settled province and let the cold get them.

Of course, the really fun part will be taking what you are given and going with it. After all, the actual medieval nobles didn't usually get the chance to send their sons off to a desert, they had to stick with the bad apples. ;)

Was just joking. In CK I wouldn´t start a war just to get rid of my sons, like I did in MTW. The results wouldn´t please me at all, I guess there is also a loss in prestige when a son dies in a battle. I will keep also those ugly miserable bastards. I will love them like my own sons, wait they are my own sons  ... :D !

You sure about that? Perhaps you got a wife with "kind giver" trait :D

Will we even know for certain whether our sons/daughters are sorry excuses, or will we have to try to deduce it from the results of their actions? We know we can see certain statistics about our own character on the screenshots, and certain comments in Tamas' AAR make it look like he can see at least some statistics for his wives, courtiers, etc., but I would wonder if a lot of this information would not be hidden from the player (unless we cheat and look in the savegame file, of course!).

Personally I would think it would make for better gameplay if most of the personal stats were hidden from the player (especially for characters outside of your own family that you don't meet over the dinner table every day). In reality people don't wander around with stewardship ratings tattooed on their foreheads.

Of course, one can look at it the other way... trying to breed the ugliest most useless bastard dynasty of Europe is probably just as fun as trying to get good heirs. Ah, can't wait to get the game and start creating a nice family of heretics and kinslayers... :D

Another reason I think to not kill your son is, that in CK there is always the possibility that your sons die before the old king dies (in MTW this never happend unless I wanted it to happen  ). Lets say you killed your first son, so that your second can get the title and ooooops your second son dies by some disease. GAME OVER! ugly thought ...

Ps.: My wife will be kept hidden in a castle, guarded by men with unnatural high voices :D , damn I´m christian and not muslim so I have to forget about that

It seems as you can change succession laws so that you realm will be an elective pricipality and try to get your second son elected. Although not so very good in the long term as you can loose the title to someone outside your dynasty...

Uhmmm no.

Do you seriously believe no parent could tell which of his children is smarter in maths, which one has a better way of expressing themselves or which is physically stronger or more able?

In a general sense, obviously, yes you should be able to tell these kinds of things but I expect, at least I hope, that things, particularly the traits, will develop and be revealed over time - the things he/she want you and others to know about, anyway. Other nasty things could be discovered inadvertantly, or perhaps by spies, or somesuch.

Which is why I made a reservation for family members. I would think I would know my own stats quite well (unless I had a characteristic like "self-delusional"), my close family's stats less well, and strangers' stats only by deduction from their observed success or failure as they attempted in-game actions.

If this isn't in the game, it should be... Would also be nice to have things like insanity, resulting in your actions sometimes not happening, sometimes not being accurate and other times, things happening without your knowledge, though I suspect this is pushing it, a bit...

Maybe just a tad ... ;)

Personally it won't bother me in the least if when I get the game I can see all characters stats (particularly since I am a fan of watching hands-off games to see how things develop on their own) but I think a "character" counterpart to Fog-Of-War for the map would be interesting.

Good idea. However, unless that thing I posted the other day about having a clearly deliberate hands off way of playing is listened too, I don't think you'll be able to continue that in CK. With the scale of the map and nature of the game, you can't just go somewhere out of the way and not be interacted with by other countries/families/whatever, let alone your relatives. You'd just end up heirless after, at most, 2 generations and buggered.
