Hello, I've installed and run EU2 from my original (now several years old) install disc and downloaded and applied the various patches successfully in the past several time.

I am attempting a new install on a new PC on the Win XP operating system. The install from disc went fine. I downloaded patch v.1.08 and installed it successfully. When the game loads is loading, everything goes fine, the green bar goes across until the game starts loading graphics.

I get an error message saying that "gfx/palette/djonk_palette.bmp not found" and offers an option to abort, retry or ignore. If I ignore this then another message appears saying "gfx/palette/napo_palette.bmp not found" and offers the same three options. If I choose ignore here, the game crashes and I get dumped back to desktop and am asked if I want to send in an error report by windows.

Can someone tell me how to work around this problem? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

And do those files actually exist or not?

My guess is EU2 has in fact been on this PC before and the install or the patch application got messed up. Do a complete uninstall, including cleaning up the registry (there's a guide in the self-help sticky thread in this forum). Run a defrag on the hard disk, install EU2 and check it runs OK. Then install 1.08 and check it runs OK.

Are you sure you installed 1.08 and not 1.08B.
You must install 1.08 before the 1.08B

Still having problems...

I did all of the above, re-installed the original game. It runs fine. I re-installed the correct version of 1.08.exe and it started giving me the same error message again. It appears to be some issue with the patch. I did find the two files EU2 says it's missing in my HOI and HOI2 folders. Apparently simply copying the files to the location indicated in the error message does not work either. I do not receive the missing files message after doing this, the game simply CTD while loading graphics.

Any other ideas?

Don't mix and match, try Dling the patch from a different source.

I've actually already tried that too. Deleted the game. Downloaded the patch from a different source, applied it again, same result as original post about missing palette files. I'm not sure where to go from here.

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

Those two files are in my EU2 v1.00 (Strategy First) and not in the 1.08 patch and AFAIK Paradox patches don't remove files. You should probably verify what the publisher is for your EU2 and exactly what patch file you downloaded. What version does your CD install and are those two files present before you install the patch?
