As far as I know, every province in LI starts with 0 in all tech stats. Correct? I'm simply wondering if giving certain "Metropolitan" areas such as Rome, Constantinople, and perhaps Ma'rib slight tech boosts would dramatically affect gameplay in any way. It certainly seems that some counties/capitals should have higher technology than other, relative wastelands. Is the Zero Tech all around simply something that was decided long ago, and do the larger provinces have large tech boosts which put them ahead of the rest? Or is this a valid issue to look into?

I tend to agree; however, Lux was not devoid of a "Dark Age". The rapid influx of invaders combining with the slowly-changing legacy of the past (even with their advancements in technology), in addition to the waves of civil war that happened... basically everywhere would probably mean that spread isn't at an all-time high right now. That being said, some cities which were not as affected as others, and maybe we could do with boosting points in a few places.

Thanks for the reply. Certainly a handful could use "slight" boosts to their levels. It would probably be best to test this and see if it indeed does make them overpowered.

I'd suggest to link this to your planned holding-overhaul: provinces with a 6- or 7-level could get bonii

it's not possible however to define specifically which areas have a tech boost. the only way to control it is using vanilla parameters (ie. muslim, orthodox, christian, pagan, renaissance). I've been trying to do this for ages now (well, back when I first began tweaking tech), and I still haven't found a satisfactory way to implement it.

of course, it's possible something changed post-RoI that I didn't notice...

A trick that was used in some mods (BGA for example) was to use temp religions to set up initial tech levels, then use a maintenance event to change the religions to the intended ones.

An easier way is probably giving some cities extra buildings at start (some already have that.) Doesn't quite do the same thing of course.

Hmm... if we're only applying this to a handful of provinces, we might be able to do the first.

We've already sort of got the second going in some places, but tbh this creates an imbalance more than anything. Almost more influential than the amount of baronies in a province is the building set up, and when local lords only have the cultural levies and such, it's... fun for the one with the buildings :D But not really anyone else. If someone hypothetically wanted to touch up on some provinces and add a realistic set up for them (it's not like people suddenly started building castles and towns in 1066), that would add more balance and realism. Something to think about for the future...

I suspect some of the building setups were holdovers from vanilla.
