It actually literally doesn't say DEV diary, the fact that people are up in arms over a promotional stunt that would have been released at this time regardless of the state of game balance/lag/stability/whatever is truly amazing.
It literally is tagged as a dev diary. If you go to the previous actual dev diary, there is a next dev diary button. It takes you here.

The title not including the words "dev diary" doesn't reduce the degree to which this was an error. It was presented exactly where dev diaries go, flagged as the next dev diary. That was not a good idea at this time.

It's much less than an apocalyptic crisis, but it is in very bad taste to try to sell merch for a game in need of some major repair work presented via a joke dev diary. It is, again, much like if a salesman came to try to sell you heated seats while you wait for the faulty engine of the car to be fixed. Regardless of whether that actually materially makes the situation worse for the problem, that's at best quite annoying.

As far as I can tell, no there isn't? I didn't pay attention at the start I'll admit, but currently, unless I'm looking in the wrong place, there isn't a previous dev diary button on this thread and there isn't a next dev diary button on the previous DD. This thread also does not have the Developer Diary tag in the list of threads.

Dont see any "next dev diary" linking to the Glu Glu Diary. Can you show us where you see it?

I mean it is fair to say such a plushi commercial leaves a bad taste when the game itself has issues... but guys, cmon. Look at that thing. It is worth an anouncement and was most likely planned months ago to get released now, it is fine lol...

If it's not there, they removed it since the first time I said that wasn't good.

Do you imagine I made that up? Sorry, no.

Asking for evidence is not 'imagining' that you made things up. 'Trust, but verify' is an axiom with which you should familiarize yourself.

Now people in this thread are gaslighting you just to make things even worse.
(Gaslighting: The manipulation of someone into questioning their perception of reality)

Don't feel bad, you were correct.

I know the thread had the big green "Developer Diary" on thursday. I checked and was about to make a comment about it at the time but saw people getting banned and felt cold and didn't want to attract the attention of an angry moderator. I wish I'd taken a screenshot now as I didn't imagine the fiasco would devolve into gaslighting on top of it all.

Okay this is actually getting ridiculous and kinda personal. I am not "gaslighting" anyone and I don't have any reason to do so. I geniunely didn't pay attention to whether or not there was a button in the corner or a tag saying Developer Diary when I first opened this thread (because seriously does anyone?), and when it was mentioned and I went to check, there wasn't. What exactly am I supposed to say here?

You are absolutely right - they removed it. And now people call all of us, who originally saw it, liars, because none made screenshot of original version.

But the saddest thing in this whole situation is: if you look in Victoria3 forum, you can see plushie things there, causing the same negative reaction (at least they was not marked DD, as far as i know). For a long time, after custodian initiative, Stellaris team was often pointed as example of how to solve problems of V3. And now they copy from the failure.

I agree, it is a ridiculous situation. I don't blame you at all.

You were also a victim of gaslighting. What you saw had been edited without you knowing it had been changed leading to this odd little exchange questioning reality. It's not your fault - it's poor communication from MrFreake_PDX that caused the situation and then made the situation worse.

Edits to the Dev Diary should be accompanied by comments indicating the change so that people aren't fighting over silly things and don't need to screenshot every Dev post to prove it actually happened a few days later.

The simplest explaination is that the "Dev Diary" tag was removed after backlash (50 respectfully disagrees and counting) about this huge advert being tagged a Dev Diary and being released on a Dev Diary day all while the 4.0 situation is still... not amazing. It would have been a good move to make if it was accompanied by a comment saying that the tags were being removed and sorry for annoying people with this advert. But the edit was done badly and made things worse.

Now, the only evidence the "Dev Diary" tag existed is in the memories of those who saw it, or if someone took a screenshot before the edit. You were asking for evidence. I don't take screenshots of every page I see, but I was going to post about the green "Dev Diary" tag specifically so I can at least coroborate Thiend with my eye-witness testimony.

I think this thread is more about Murphy's Law (anything that can go wrong will) and Occam's Razor (the simplest explaination is usually the correct one).

I mean, scheduled or not, one would think the Devs would've maybe said 'mmm, maybe we don't publish this thing that we know will aggravate our already angry customer base'. Even with the proviso that they said last week that this week's and next week's(?) diaries were going to be fluff/merch ads, it may have been wise to say 'no scrap it', and I think some of the customers would've been happy with a little update that said 'considering the egregious state we've left the game in, no dev diaries due to short week and us having better things to do than PR for a plushie'.

But to A: sent this out as a Dev Diary, and B: then to after the fact silently edit it so it doesn't 'look like it was a dev diary'....really really...kinda looks bad for Paradox/Dev Team.

Anyone who genuinely thinks "the players (as a whole, and not as individuals) would prefer that the game be late than that it release with bugs" has clearly never seen any video game fandom when a delay is announced. Pretending that people would somehow be more civil if they'd kept working on 4.0 until August or whenever* instead of releasing it is just not paying attention.

* Assuming that there is a date that they could work on the game until to make it release without bugs, which is more of a theoretical debate but I would be skeptical of saying there is.
The catch 22 of video game development: no matter what you do, someone will accuse you of doing a bad job. Humans are impossible to please.

I don't consider this a Dev Diary personally. I ended Dev Diary #385 with:
Since the next two weeks are both short weeks in Sweden, our next Stellaris Dev Diary will be June 12th. (You’ll be hearing from me in patch notes in the meantime though.)

We won't have one this week because I want to get more time in on fixes because of the short week. (Friday is National Day.)
