Goals for Japan

The year in 1871, I have civilised, got my economy under control (am making ₤70-₤100) and have annexed Korea, but now I'm not entirely sure what I want to do in this game. China seems big and scary (it's my 2nd game ever) and I'm on very good terms with Russia (hoping to ally). Any ideas what I should aim for?

Colonize. You get new provinces and a big prestige boost. You could also be a "world police" and DoW -100 prestige nations.

Try being the greatest nation by the end date, and win the game

Stab Russia in the back and crush them. Take all their Asian lands, you need them more.

Going for China and/or India makes for a boring game. I suggest taking the dutch east indies and Indochina. And make sure to get a full citizenship party in power so you can exploit the asian workers.

That early? Take Hawai`i before the Yanks muck with it.

Rule the seas.

Ally with Germany. Use amphibious assaults to satellite the UK and US.

My goal for my next Japanese game:

Turn Pacific into your lake. Annex China and Korea, conquer Australia and Philippines, colonise Indonesia. Complete your dominance by conquering US west coast.

It'd be interesting to see if you could get them all speaking Japanese by the end of the game. :nod:

I agree with poster above that war with China can be a buzzkilling slog, though.

Thanks mate. And thanks for the input everyone.

So I've played on a bit more, taken Hawaii, the north coast of Borneo and colonised the islands north and south of Japan. Now I'm slowly building up my navy and preparing for war with Spain over the Philippines, and with Holland over the Dutch East Indies. Then I might try to take Indochina, but I'll wait and see how powerful France is looking before I try that.
