God, Country and Honor, a MagyAAR(1936-1948)

Disclaimer:
Okay, this game is currently run under:
CORE v.084

Difficulty:Normal(This is my first AAR,after all ;) )
AI Aggressiveness:Furious

Please note, that I've edited the standard CORE database files,to model the historic claims of Hungary on lands taken by the Treaty of Trianon(1920)

Further, please note that since I still don't understand the economy model of HOI very well, and since Hungary doesn't produce many resources,I've given myself maximum resources in everything(except supplies) to begin with. This is the only time I will be doing this(these should last me for most of the game, anyways :) ).

Early 1936

The year 1936 was a time of sorrow for many, it had been 16 years since the "Mini-Versailles" had been signed. For now, in the grips of the depression, faced with an uncertain future, the Hungarian nation looks to the future with hope. It is a common belief that the new government headed by Gyula Gömbös would finally bring salvation, and restore the national prestige that was lost due to the humiliation at Trianon.

Meanwhile, while the people of Hungary seek to scratch out a meager living from uncertainty, not all suffer in poverty.......

Regent Horthy's Palace, in Budapest

In a dark conference room at Buda Castle, the current Palace of Hungarian Regent Miklos Horthy, a meeting to decide Hungary's fate takes place.

Horthy(Head of State/Regent): I'd like to discuss the course we must take now, to recover for Hungary, the land that we have lost at Trianon. I cannot stress the necessity of a speedy recovery of these lands, before the ethnic-cleansing and cultural genocide of our new Yugoslavian, Romanian and Czechoslovakian neighbours leads to the destruction and death of those ethnic Hungarians living in the Horvátföld(Sidenote:Croatia,to all you non-Hungarians),Transylvania and Slovakia.

Gyula(Prime Minister): Well, your Excellency, at the moment, Hungary is doing rather badly......our armed forces are weak and hampered by outdated equipment, our economy still hadn't recovered from the Trianon Treaty losses, when the Great Depression hit us, I'm afraid we won't be able to do much.....

Horthy: That is of no consequence, we must recover the land we have lost at Trianon, and we must do it quickly......what do you think, Kálmán(Foreign Minister), who can we turn to for aid?

Kálmán: I would suggest the Third Reich, Excellency. We cannot ask the West to assist us in getting our rightful land back, as they were the ones who took it away from us in the first place! It would also be foolish to ask the Soviet Union for help, we tried that in 1919, and the Hungarian Soviet Socialist Republic, cost us millions in damage, led to a joint invasion by France and Romania, and led to the loss of further territory. Only Germany can assist us in re-taking that which is rightfully ours. Like us, they are also bitter over the harsh treatment they received at the end of the Great War. Therefore, Excellency, I recommend we begin a series of trade agreements, and perhaps some diplomatic negotiations with the Germans. Meanwhile, to avoid risking our position, we could counter-balance the German influence with the Danube Pact we share with Italy and Austria.

Horthy: Yes......it could work.......what have you to say on the matter, Lászlo(Minister of Airforce)?

Lászlo: I don't like the idea, Excellency, Hitler is in charge of Germany now, him and his National Socialist thugs.....Hungary should have nothing to do with Nazi swine like that.

Horthy: Of course, I shall make the decision regarding that, and I have decided to carry out Kálmán's plan. I hope you see Lászlo, that this is the only way.

Lászlo: Yes, your Excellency.......

Thats a nice palace. Hope its used well.

Are you writing custom events for this AAR? For example, instead of creating Slovakia, Hitler can give it to Hungary and you're halfway to your former glory.

Update.

All: Sorry for the large gap between updates.....couldn't be helped. However, now I am going to be able to put updates actively.....

Keiper: Indeed....fuzzy mittens....

Sir Humphrey: We shall have to wait and see......

Virgiltchicken: Heh, I'm only modifying Hungary's territorial claims, to represent the historical claims.....about Slovakia, we'll have to see, if I recall, there's an event around 1938 that lets Hungary invade it ;)

Dark Scipio: Thanks

Late 1936

Some time had passed since the meeting of the Cabinet and the Ministers but the unofficial alliance with Germany was working wonders. Not all appreciated the German "advisors" that came with the deal however, the Hungarian economy was put back in order and brilliant new strides were made in technological areas, for now, the main concern of the government. The brand new Toldi light tank has been making an appearance in the countryside, where it is currently being tested.

Meanwhile......in another dark conference at Buda Castle........

Horthy: Welcome again, we now have more important things to discuss....now that we have enlisted the aid of our German friends....we must decide which Hungarian territory to re-take first.....Bring forth the map!!

*guards rush forward carrying a large map*

TrianonMap.JPG

Gyula: We should attack Romania first, Excellency, they are our most hated enemies!

István Shvoy(Minister of Army): Our soldiers are ready, we'll rip those Romanians apart!

Kálmán: Any more bright ideas? Attacking Romania would surely bring about a Soviet intervention or the French...no, no.....we must appear to be the ones who are under attack or at least attack an area no one can intervene in, that is land-locked.

Horthy: Yes.....it could work......but where?

István: My troops are ready to go, anywhere, anytime!

Kálmán: I suggest Czechoslovakia, Excellency, they are perfect targets.....we shall simply have to split them with Germany.

Horthy: Make all the arrangements......

István: My troops are ready to go, we'll kill 'em, we'll stomp 'em, we'll smash 'em, we'll bash 'em.

*Gyula rolls eyes*

Horthy: Hmmm....where is Lászlo Tomor today?

Kálmán: He did not report to the Ministry today.......

Gyula: I knew it, he's working with those Romanians bastards!

István: Let's kill 'em, let's smash 'em, let's bash 'em.

Horthy: Hmmm.....look for him.......now!

*everyone scurries off*

Meanwhile, somewhere over Hungarian airspace.......

Red Leader: This is Red Leader to Squadron, pull up to 5,000 feet and keep formation.

Red 3: Red Leader, Red Leader, this is Red 3, I've got an unidentified plane coming in, 10:00 O'Clock High.

Red Leader: Roger Red 3, let's go in for a closer look.

*after some time*

Red Leader: Bandit 1, identify yourself, over.

Bandit 1: This is Captain Joseftsi Vadslta, Czech Airforce.

Red Leader: This is Captain Gyuri Lászlo, Royal Hungarian Airforce, you are in Hungarian airspace, land now or we will open fire.

Bandit 1: No can do Captain, I've got to get this important passenger of mine to Portugal.

Red Leader: Not through Hungarian airspace, turn back at once.

<short pause>

Red Leader: Red Leader to Squadron, form up on me, standard attack formation.

*Squadron gets into position*

Red 2: Red Leader, this is Red 2, that's Vienna down there, I don't think we can go after this one.

Red Leader: You're right, we can't anger the Austrians now or the Germans, let's go home, I'm sure we'll find out what this was about, back at the base.

Back at the Palace.........

Horthy: WHAT!?!?!?!

Gyula: Apologies, Excellency, but it appears Lászlo has got away....with our plans for territorial expansion, no less.

Horthy: I want his family shot, I want him executed.....where is he?

*Shadowy figure appears from a dark corridor*

Gustáv Henneyey(Minister of Intelligence): My agents report that the plane he was in has landed at Portugal, my men tried to follow him from the airport but with no success.....It appears the Czechoslovakians agreed to let him cross into Czechoslovakia and flee to Portugal from there.

Horthy: I want him killed.....now!

Gustáv: It will be as you say, Excellency.........

Dang, I hate it when people escape with my plans. :(

Ah well, doesn't matter. Take him out, then rebuild your glory ;)

Nice map! Oh, and great update too but that almost goes without saying.
