so sad... I hope if you try it again will be with the same success

I look forward to reading the new one - I'd love to play this scenario but unfortunately I am absolutely dreadful at the game!

Perhaps before you start you can ask some enterprising souls to script the events to give Italy back her provinces?

Those are some weird bugs indeed, you're playing ftm right. Maybe finest hour could fix some of those issues? It's 3 euro's on steam untill january 3d :)

Looking forward to your second playthrough!

You really should keep autosave on, it can prevent a lot of heart burn.

I do keep autosave on, but only 3 autosaves are kept. At any given time I usually have around 5 active campaigns so my Japanese campaign (not AAR standard) took up the most recent autosaves.

I made a lot of mistakes in that AAR due to the bugs I was facing, but if the next one is clean then hopefully I can show off some actual skill in "encirclement methods".

I will do my best to get TFH before the offer is gone. Thanks for the heads up!

That'll be difficult to do since the first update of my new Gotterdammerung AAR will be up TODAY! Yes sir indeed, today! stay tuned folks.

please post a link to your new AAR once you start it

I'll be updating this thread! I won't start a new one because I want to highlight some of my previous mistakes in handling the game as well.

My updates were supposed to be on new years eve but a work related emergency has delayed me significantly. I'll have everything prepped and ready by tomorrow evening, so stay tuned!

May the new year be filled with blessings and good health for you and your loved ones! :)

Thank you Guderian1992! I wish the same for you and all the readers

Ok I'm experiencing the same bugs all over again. I just purchased the entire HoI 3 collection and I'll push through this campaign on TFH as soon as its downloaded and ready... Curse you FTM! Curse you!!

Part I: The Twilight of the Gods
As I stood there faced with pale steel blue eyes with the fervour of a madman in them, I realized that I was the unluckiest man alive. My name is Julius Ringel and I've been chosen by the Führer to lead the Axis forces in Europe. The entire Wehrmacht was shocked by my appointment as Chief of the Army, but there was no time for formalities.

HoI3_8_1.jpg

Rommel, Model, & von Rundstedt - three of our finest generals - had failed to stop the allies from landing, and then subsequently failed to halt the advance from the beachhead. In Italy our fortunes were not any better, the allies have come to a halt just 50km north of Roma and now it was our turn to take the initiative. As for the eastern front, well; I'd rather leave that for later.

Immediately I was struck by the deprived state of our manpower reserves and the lack of synthetic fuel in our fatherland, but these were all issues that could be solved by the minister of armaments Albert Speer. My biggest problem of course was the 4 million or so Russian troops barraging our eastern front.

My first few moves were terminate the German garrisons in Crete and Rhodes; we had no way of returning them to the front and I'd be very surprised if we could even supply them in the first place.

HoI3_6_1.jpg

Next I turned my attention to the Wehrmacht. The state of the armed forces was terrible, and I immediately began to demote all reserve corps generals to division generals. My next move was to assign generals to all inactive armies (WB SüdOst) or those that were being repositioned (19th Armee for example) to allow their organization levels to resettle. My final move was to relocate all unorganized Luftwaffe squadrons and Kriegsmarine flotillas to Berlin and Wilhelmshaven respectively in order to reorganize them and make them fight better.

HoI3_5_1.jpg

After the initial reorganization had begun, I gave the order to begin offensive action against allied armies in western France and southern Italy. These offensive manoeuvres saw initial success and the battle of St. Lo was concluded in 28 hours. On the eastern front on the other hand, I delivered our orders to retreat to any defensible position that could be found.

May God be with us, because we really need him at this dire time.

Part II: Perseverance
Our offensive actions must lead to a definitive result or else we'll risk a complete collapse of our war effort. Perseverance will be the key to victory!

We begin by strategically redeploying the 19th Army from southern France to Berlin for future use in the Eastern Front.

HoI3_1_1.jpg

Next, we set a definitive policy for technological and theoretical research for the future.

HoI3_2_1.jpg

The results of our re-organization of the air force are shown below. They will defend Germany's airspace and launch offensive actions better now.

HoI3_3_1.jpg

We fell under heavy attacks from the Russians in Romania and we managed to somehow only get penetrated over two provinces, one in the north and one in the south. Our next move is to attempt to encircle the marauding Red Army with our reserve Panzerdivisions, which were cleverly hidden from view.

HoI3_5_1.jpg

Et voila... The first 36,000 men & tanks have been eliminated from the conflict. Only 3.64 million more to go...

HoI3_6_1.jpg

Following our determined offensives and defensive counterattacks on all fronts, we may display the following results proudly:

1. D-Day has been halted, even though a small invasion has landed but it won't be difficult to deal with.
2. 36,000 Russian men & tanks will soon be eliminated from the war.
3. Advances in Italy have been made and the front is threatening to collapse over the Allies' heads.

Below is the state of Germany & Co's holdings as at the 2nd of July 1944.

HoI3_7_1.jpg

Below is the Allied beachfront in western France.

HoI3_8_1.jpg

Furthermore, below is the state of the Italian front.

HoI3_9_1.jpg

We now enact a new law that forces all those of German blood and those under the jurisdictions of the Reich to enrol in our valiant Wehrmacht. We chose to not enact any further industrial laws under the request of minister Albert Speer, who states that it would be impossible to fund such a development in our IC base at the moment.

HoI3_10_1.jpg

Below is the final state of the German holdings as at the 24th of July 1944. Notice the Italian front, we'll soon encircle around 30,000 men in Italy and move forward to sweep the Allied forces out of Italy. That is, IF luck will remain by our side.

Part III: Tactical Prowess
Throughout my military career, I've won every other honour there is in the Wehrmacht. My Knights Cross of the Iron Cross has so many decorations around it you'd think it was a Christmas tree. Starting out after the great progress made previously, I've decided to have a look at our closest allies, Japan (Also the last major Axis power besides Germany).

Below is a map of what Japan holds at the moment. They've taken Guam and have made good headway in south-west Asia, while also holding the line remarkably in Burma.

HoI3_12_1.jpg

When I saw this acceptable level of progress & defence from our last great ally, we began constructing the master-plan for the next phase of offensive action in Europe. We devised an intricate plan of encirclements in both the eastern front and in southern Italy. Below is a copy of this plan - dubbed the Julius plan.

HoI3_13_1.jpg

The plan is split into 5 phases. Phase 1 is the encirclement of Russian forces near the Hungarian border (136,000 men).

HoI3_14_1.jpg

Phase 2 is the destruction of Allied forces in western France.

HoI3_16_1.jpg

Phase 3 is the encirclement of Russian forces near the marshlands of central Russia, tanking advantage of 0 infrastructure provinces.

HoI3_15_1.jpg

Phases 4 & 5 are the destruction of encircled Allied forces near Tivoli (37,000 men & tanks) in southern Italy and finally the encirclement of push-back of Allied forces in southern Italy.

HoI3_17_1.jpg

Below are three images taken from our secret Nazi satellites of the simultaneous offensive actions near the Hungarian border, southern Italy, & western France.

HoI3_18_1.jpg

HoI3_19_1.jpg

The offensives in Southern Russia are a result of strategic redeployments of the forces found in Denmark and the 19. Armee.

HoI3_20_1.jpg

To replace the forces of the 19th Armee and garrison the ports of southern France, I've relocated a corps of Bulgarian forces.

HoI3_23_1.jpg

Some success on the Eastern Front.

HoI3_25_1.jpg

And they're encircled. The surrender of 136,000 Russian men is imminent.

HoI3_27_1.jpg

A small glimpse of the action - or should I call it success - in Southern Italy

HoI3_26_1.jpg

Success in Russia! The 136,000 encircled men have been destroyed!

Part IV: The Hunter & the Hunted
Intelligence gathering in war is an unparalleled means to an end. History has seen that those who can see past the fog of war will always have an advantage over those who cannot. Before I begin to tell the tale of the great encirclement of Husiatyn, I will display the current possessions of Germany and her allies - Finland has fallen on this day.

HoI3_1_1.jpg

I received intelligence from the Gestapo that a large Russian armoured and motorized force was massing at Husaityn, probably under the objective of piercing our lines at the city of Stanislav (I discovered this during the last encirclement when I was under attack from Husaityn by armoured divisions). Therefore, I decided to encircle and destroy as much as I could from this force. Within a few hours of receiving the intelligence, the order to encircle Husaityn was issued and went into execution.

The southern pincer came from Romania and was expected to link up with the northern pincer at Horodok - Tarnopol .

HoI3_2_1.jpg

Kamianets would fall less than 5 days later. The Bolsheviks still had no idea what was about to hit them.

HoI3_3_1.jpg

Horodok would fall less than two days later and Tarnopol would follow suit before the end of September 11 1944.

HoI3_6_1.jpg

We managed to encircle the entire Husiatyn force, comprising of 12 armoured brigades (4x 3ARM), 6 infantry brigades, 3 mechanized brigades, and 3 elite red guard brigades.

HoI3_7_1.jpg

The fall of Husiatyn meant that the USSR lost 72,000 men & tanks. But, the true cost of such an encirclement can be measured in the IC cost of such an encirclement.
  1. 9.78 IC per armoured brigade; 12 armoured brigades = 117.36 IC
  2. 8.19 IC per mechanized brigade; 3 mechanized brigades = 24.57 IC
  3. 2.13 IC per infantry brigade; 6 infantry brigades = 12.8 IC
  4. 2.23 IC per Guard brigade; 3 Guard brigades = 6.69 IC
72,000 men or 2,268 IC days completely obliterated!

HoI3_8_1.jpg

In the meantime lets have a look at Italy before I end this journal entry.

HoI3_10_1.jpg

I think I deserve a raise...

Well I haven't encountered a single bug since! The perfect solution I'd say.

My manpower is pretty much the same as what's seen in the pics. About 340 now. I'm not playing too far forwards, mainly I'm keeping these updates somewhat live.

Those are some impressive encirclement's considering how many men the Red Army has defending each sector, but unless you can somehow do to them what they did to you at Stalingrad it'll be very difficult to even see the German Army ever regaining the initiative...

What are you building/training at this point?

Godspeed, Herr General.

One step at a time I can surely inflict tremendous damage to the Red Army. In the next update (Today) I will encircle and destroy another 135,000 men & tanks; and attempt an audacious encirclement of 288,000 men (haven't done this one yet).

Without the later 288,000 (becuase I'll do that today hopefully and add it to the tally); that'll bring my total to:

36,000+136,000+72,000+135,000= 379,000 men & tanks. And that's in less than 3 months!

I'm also holding a high line if you've noticed. I'm not taking advantage of territorial pride, I'm letting the USSR take advantage of territorial pride and I'm still in one piece. Sp wish me luck!

Godspeed, Herr General.

Yawol! Thank you for your good encouragement!

I forgot to reply to the question at hand. I started with the following:

2 parallel V2
2 parallel destroyers
2 parallel interceptor squadrons
2 parallel IC
3 parallel convoys
10 parallel AT brigades

So far I've built 6 V2 rockets, 10 AT, & 3 convoys. I'll keep building V2 rockets & AT till this round of AT production finishes. Then I'll switch to ENG/ART.

great you are back! and with such a success!
