4 days, the patch has been out 4 days, still nothing on gog. I think anyone who has played the game or just read some of the threads in this forum can tell that while the game has a lot of potential there are more than a few not insubstantial problems. Patches are going to be very important for this game. If this timeline is how it is going to be for future patches I think it would behoove whoever makes the decision to make Surviving Mars available on GOG Connect.

I also understand that this is on GOG as well, but when asked about whether the patch has even been submitted to them in the patch thread...nothing but crickets.

Well, I agree with you and what bother's me is that we don't see someone answering the threads, I mean, the Paradox staff is very active in their forums, the Haemimont should be as well.

Not only that but how do you get a mod with GOG version? Steam has the Workshop, obviously. Most PDX games you either get them from a sub-forum dedicated to Mods or Steam Workshop, or both.

Here it seems the Mod subforum is dedicated to Mod discussion and sharing mod resources and not sharing Mods.

Edit:

I am thinking about refunding at GOG and getting it for Steam. I can solve this (and probably other problems, like the patches) and even get it cheaper (despite the bonus credit GOG gave)!

GOG is the problem, not Paradox or Haemimont. They gave them the patch right away. It is in their court now.

Where are you getting your information from?

From the developers. They mentioned when they released the first patch that it was pushed out. Which means it was given to all platforms for the game.

Susie (not a developer) wrote that they pushed a patch. She didn't say that it was pushed to all platforms.

Good question about the mods, too. Where do GOG games usually get mods?

usually when a developer releases a patch it does for every plataform more or less at same time. I don´t think this is different for haemimont games.

But console plataforms for example must go tests made by Sony, Nintendo or MS companys to assure there is no problem and that can take days.
Steam also sometimes hold a patch for hours or even days.

gog is famous for delaying patchs, it was never a good plataform on that point, not just surviving mars. I think there is even a couple games that lack the last patch there.

While i think haemimont can try to improve gog players patch releases a little , i don´t think they can make gog stop being gog :p.

GoG is always later with patches for most games. I thought this was commonly known ?

Bah, it's not about smugness. It's about having control over the game that I purchased. GOG lets me keep copies of the installers so that I can play if GOG ever goes out of business. And, unlike Steam, GOG doesn't force updates on me. It's just better about letting me control my games.

Still no patch, though. :(

Steam is a privately held company owned by a lovable neckbeard billionaire with a company full of people who love video games. I wouldn't worry too much about the prospect of Steam going under and erasing everyone's old data out of spite.

Fortunately, I don't have to worry about it. I got my game on GOG. No DRM is the best DRM.

I think I remember hearing that Valve set Steam up in a way that if they thought they were going under, they can send out patches to remove the Steam requirement from all games bought through it. Unless they go under with half your library not installed on any computer or you're offline throughout the process and come back to find Steam dead, you're generally fine.

also even if steam goes offline, you can always go offline and worst case scenario still keep the games you have installed.

this made me remember if this happens somedya i will need a ton of HD´s and DVD´s to download everything haha.

Dunno about you folks but I guess most folks have almost nothing out of their Library installed. I mean, I have 5 TB of space here on PC and yet I only have like 30 games installed (and this car vary wildly from a 300 MB game to a 90 GB easily!).

Damn, this gave me chills. Imagine if Valve went under, Steam with it and you had like a year long period to sort yourself out by downloading every single game. This would be a nightmare, both for HDD space, bandwidth and traffic and also... time!

That's part of the reason I'm concerned by their general lack of interest in personally developing new games. Most of their profits come from sales of games on Steam and microtransactions in games like TF 2, I think. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but all it takes is for people to stop paying for stuff in games or for more major companies (with more respect and integrity than EA or Ubisoft) to start making their own distribution platforms to sell on for Valve to take a nosedive.

Fearing steams death: Still have some old game on floppy disks, my last three computer did not had/have an fdd to use those disk, but I have the hardcopy, so my games are safe...
On the other hand, when (not if) they will die and give everyone a few days/weeks to download everything for the final offline session, the internet will die from traffic.
