and need to upgrade graphics card

Beleg32 suggested these graphic cards

buy Geforce 9400GT for
45£, and it will be much better than this one. And will run the game. I recommend ati radeon 5770, 1GB RAM, excellent graphic card, every game will run on it on max settings, so far games like crysis worked for me on max. It cost 140£, and is excellent value for money.

the only problem is amazon has multiple options for the graphic cards suggested w/ diffrent prices

what are the diffrences and which should I buy

thanks for the insight

Generally speaking there's no real difference for you between the different brands, as long as it's a 5770.

They are all made in the same factory and the different companies just put their sticker on them.

The main difference is that the accessories you get and some can be factory overclocked.

So find a decently priced one and be happy.

Yeah, I don't think you can go wrong by buying a standard 1GB 5770.

However, I saw your other thread and the Gateway DX 4831 you have has only a 300W power supply which is insufficient for the 5770 (min 450W required), so you'll need a new PSU too.

Thanks for the info

5770 is insuffient for my power supply and a power supply and the 5770 is out of my price range

the Geforce 9400GT is more in my price range will it work with my current 350 w power supply?

Power supplies are cheap and surprisingly easy to install, if you can afford a good card, dont get a crap one just because of power requirements

I will consider it how easy is it to install a power supple is as easy as install in graphic card or memory? Plug into a slot?

I would like to thank everyone for thier support and help you guys are great.

Thanks

To install a power supply:

Anyway, it's easy. First look at your current power supply and remember (or write down) where every cord goes. Then remove the power supply and replace with the new one. Then just plugin all the required cords. Don't worry about any leftover cords.

would the 5770 run vicky 2?

I would assume it does.

I myself have ATi Radeon 5770 HD and I'm able to easily run for example Dragon Age: Origins, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare,
Saboteur and Fallout 3. So yes, I think it will be able to run Victoria 2. Of course good processor and some relatively
fast RAM is important too. But IIRC they made it so that all (or as much as possible) graphics could be processed in GPU
instead of CPU, which gives more resources for doing other calculations.

PS: I know some of the games I listed are already old, but they still require a lot from the graphic card.

EDIT: However, devs might know better if they have tested the game with 5770. 5770 is a great graphic card whatsoever.

Basically, you plug it into a slot and then connect the wires to all the things that the previous one was connected to. I did one for the first time a few months ago, and I can promise you it's a simple job.

I would be surprised if it wasn't way, way more than enough. If you're going to spend that kind of money, you might want to consider a Geforce GTX 460, the first 400 series card that seems to be value for money.

Personally I think spending for top range cards is a waste of money unless you can afford to get a new system frequently. It may be better to save some of your money and buy a new base unit in eighteen months time.

you see, I got 4 GB of RAM and a dual core 2.6 processor, but my current video card is integrated and I have a theory that it causes everything else to go slower

See if you can find a 5770 that's low profile. Those generally consume less power, though you sacrifice things like the option for Crossfire, and overclocking.

if it's the usual deal for PI most Graphic Cards (and almost all new) will run the games, there might be specific requirements for shading or other stuff, but what you really need to think about is processor power. For most games all you need to upgrade in your computer is the Graphics Card, but because grand strategy games (like PI's) have massive database info, the hardware focus should be on the processor (maybe also RAM, but i would think mainly the processor), which is a whole other headache :D And since I normally fill up my motherboard with the best processor and RAM it can take, it's basicly a new computer if it's not up to PI standards..
