Graphical glitch: black bars flash on the screen

Hello, I keep my game and DLC up to date and have no mods or other workshop content, but after the last two updates (I don't know what might have caused it) I start playing and get these black bars that pop on the screen horizontally, all up and down the game. If I go to the main menu, the background keeps on doing the bars but the menu is fine. All of the tiles and wiles seem to also "refresh" some times as well as the black bars jump around.

Please try this:

- uninstall PA from Steam
- unsubscribe from all mods in this game's Steam Workshop

Delete the following folders if still present:

- Steam/SteamApps/common/PA
- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Introversion/Prison Architect/
(keep any valued save games, of course)
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

Now install PA again and see how that goes please!


If that doesn't help, Please attach here the game log C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Introversion\Prison Architect\debug.txt

AND DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Hello. Please see the attached images as well as the requested files. I wonder if it is multiplayer-related, as it seems to run fine up and to the point, I put the game online, then the bars arrive. After downloading the game fresh, it seems like it got worse, but only after putting it online.

Looks to me like you have an AMD problem:

- uninstall their driver with this tool https://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMD-Clean-Uninstall-Utility.aspx
- reboot
- install the very latest by fresh download http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
- reboot again

Then test with a new prison, not any existing one. Any better?

Thank you for your assistance. After following your instructions, it would seem that it was exclusively a graphics issue at this time.

For those in the future, note that during the process, your monitors will go blank that is connected to the graphics card, and be unusable until you reinstall a new clean driver. Note too, that, that means you will need another method to see what you are doing!
