Guy I have read a crap ton of descriptions about all sorts of "Legendary Weapons" of LI, like that Sword of Victory in the British Isles or the shield of Rurik (I think).

So I have been wondering could we introduce this element into gameplay using the mechanics from AGOT?

I really would like to use the Sword of Victory in my campaigns to unify the UK or to use Zulfikar while reforging the Ummah under Ilm Islam or finding the Spear of Truth in the Crusades or maybe some badass Viking axe to spice up the slaughter... There are so many possibilities, to introduce artifacts some for martial some for non martial purposes, maybe also we could get a holy weapon/artifact when reforming a religion or get a chance to a receive one by the grace of the gods after doing some specific set of goals :)

I don't know why I posted this in the dead of night, but I just felt I needed to get this to the right people :D

aye, I've always wanted to implement such a system, and one of my to-do-lists for the next version is to start first by implementing the Weapons Mod along with a modified duel system to test the waters and lay down foundations.
after that, I could experiment with borrowing with permission AGOT's code for their valyrian swords, and see if I could get inheritance right.

for now though, they remain in the to-do-list :p

that said, if it's okay with you, can anyone trawl over the timeline and compile a list of the Legendary Weapons involved (as well at the timeline entry and preferably the recommended culture/ruler to hold it as well)?

I will try :D

While brainstorming other mechanics, I had the idea to have "you found the Sword of Victory" as a very rare event when strolling through e_britannia with your army. Maybe even complete with a claim to the empire. So I'll give this idea a spin and see if I can do something.

I thought tying them to specific dynasties, like the Arthurians of South England got their Sword transferred from generation to generation to the appointed heir. Or maybe have multiple "holy weapons" and your goal should be their destruction (if you are a wearer of one) as there can be only ONE TRUE artifact. And with less and less competition for the title of the TRUE ******* of ******* you gain greater and greater perks.

But "holy blades" like Zulfikar could give a "Sayyid" like boost to general opinion, fighting against religious enemy perk and could be enough of a catalyst to create a Caliphate or corresponding religious title.

I believe it's certainly possible to tie events to dynasties, yes...
...

somebody make that list already. we really need more manpower :rofl:

Okay I will start :)

Argeadai=Shield of Achillies
Julio-Argeadai=Shield of Achillies
Iskendarid=Shield of Achillies
Sekulos=Spear of First of the Companions
Ptolemaios=Spear of First of the Companions
Julianid=Gladius of Damocles Just fits the theme of the ERE ;)
Agiads=Spear of Leonidas
Karling=Waaaghhammer of Sigmar... I mean Karolus. Woe be to the heathens of Germania!
Merovengian=Sang Real (not a weapon, but a pretty big boost to income and levy size in the province which the ruler is, at the peace time)
Capetians=Blade of Neustria maybe, until we find a better weapon?
Bellonids= Bloodshield of Karlous the Bold.
Decebalus=Whip of Zalmoxis? Because it coils like a snake...
Olegovich=Shield of Oleg
Rurikovich/son=Some badass viking axe?
Parmenion=Spear of First of the Companions
Almaqah=Sickle sword of Almaqh
Artorius/Pendragon=Excalibur (I don't want it to say sword of victory, say Excalibur with me :D)
Vespasian=Gladius of Vespasiani
Kahina=Khainas Headcutter?
Verus=Gladius/Lance of Verus
Amyntas=Blade of Galatia
Gelimer=Wrath of Arian (a sword)
Sassanid=Helm-Crown of Xerxes massive boost of morale.
Calgacus=The Hammer of North
Theodemir=Blade of Goths
Hengist=Henist's Longknife
Aelle=Axe of the Saxons
Aescwine=Seaxneat's runeblade
Raedwald=Axe of the Saxons
Oswald=Invincible Right hand
Offa=Offa's lance
Arminius=Sword of Arminius
Asander=Bow of Apollo
Valentinian=Flavius Grace (a gladius)
Diocletianus=Shield of Diocletianus
Attilid=Bow of Attila or Sword of Mars
Rus=Greataxe of Rus
Cech=Twin Blades of Chech

And so on...

Any Christian ruler which fought a Crusade/Jihad or holds Jerusalem for a decade or two could get events to reclaim any of the great many artifacts related to Jesus and the first saints ie. Spear of Destiny for INSANE martial, moral and piety boost or the nail of Cross for not as much piety boot as the former but it would still be felt :) or maybe if you returned Sang Real to Jerusalem as a Catholic it would do something like Mend Schism event and ensure that Catholicism is the main faith in the Christian world and you get an event to rebuild the Third Temple by converting the Al Aqsa mosque ala Hagia Sophia style.

All three major Caliphates should have "the one true Zulfikar" at their hilt, but as (I always wanted to say in a sane context which wouldn't send me to a prison or mental institution) there can be only one :D Muslims could get an event to remake the Golden Qur'an or to host one of the Proclamations of Mohamed like Constitution of Medina and Accords of War in their capitals for massive income and troop boosts.

O people! I charge you with ten rules; learn them well!

Stop, O people, that I may give you ten rules for your guidance in the battlefield. Do not commit treachery or deviate from the right path. You must not mutilate dead bodies. Neither kill a child, nor a woman, nor an aged man. Bring no harm to the trees, nor burn them with fire, especially those which are fruitful. Slay not any of the enemy's flock, save for your food. You are likely to pass by people who have devoted their lives to monastic services; leave them alone

Okay this is my list off the top of my head.

Wouldn't the Karlings have Joyeuse or maybe Durendal as their dynastic weapon given that they are are actually associated with Karl der Grosse? Unless there is actual evidence/myth of Karl wielding a warhammer of course. Though if you were to use either the hammer or Joyeuse as the Karling's sword you could have Durendal as an upgrade or given as a weapon to the first Paladin or Swordbearer of the dynasty head. You could also perhaps give a shard of the latter to each of the Karling kings at game start to be reforged when the others are defeated and the empire reunited.

Excalibur could also be used as a weapon given to the Artorius uniter of Britain once they have finished the job, instead having the sword in the stone as the initial house sword or have the SitS given when a couple of kingdoms into forming the empire?

I'd note that even if we go with the Sword Of Victory = Excalibur/SiTS thing, that the Artorians are not the only ones associated with the thing. Constantine of Brittania and his descendant in Dunmoria would also like it. Given how it seems to usually pops up in the timeline, it might just wander over to whoever becomes Emperor Of Brittania, maybe starting the game in the hand of the Pendragon dude.

Go with Caledfwlch, not Excalibur. Based on the position of the Artorian lines in Britain in LI, it'd make more sense IMO.

I'm going to be a bit of a wet blanket, but none of these suggestions have any basis in the LI timeline or bloodline descriptions (or actual history or legend, in many cases) . Even Excalibur - the timelines only makes mentions of a Sword of Victory each time it's mentioned, not The Sword of Victory, which means there is more than one. The only unique item that seems to warrant any mention at all is the Sacred Oriflamme Banner. For the Swords of Victory, that seems more like an event where you execute someone, that would fire for a ruler who has one of the British cultures or bloodlines and doesn't belong to a religion in the Christian group.
