Haitian AAR

An Haiti AAR, recapturing the Dominican Republic and beyond...

Motivation for this AAR:

I’ve been wanting to do an AAR for quite some time, and I thought HoI would be a good game for this. This is going to be my first AAR ever, and I’m also new to HoI (and never played other paradox/grand strategy games). I’ve had the game for quite some time allready, but I put the game away (It was to complex and static for a console gamer like me). However, I recently installed the game again, and began learning it. And I’m still learning, so I can’t effectively run larger nations (i.e. if I play Germany the Allies will allways win). That’s why I’m doing this Haiti AAR (easy to manage). Primary goal is to recapture the Dominican Republic to rule the whole island again.

Actually I’ll allready be happy if I manage to capture the Dominican Republic and have peace with Amerca.

About me:

My name is Huub Jansen. I live in the Netherlands, near the city of Eindhoven (it is in HoI). I’m 15 years old, and my age is the reason my english isn’t to good, and I can’t make a literary work of art of this AAR, so The AAR is going to be simple of language and probably not very long. There will probably be spelling errors and maybe some wrong tenses (sometimes we use other tenses for the same situations). I’ll do my best to get it right, just don’t be to critical about my English (but you may of course correct me on major errors).

Version of HoI:

I’m using HoI version 1.06c with C.O.R.E. 0.85

The great Haitian empire (ahum) has 6 IC to spend. It is producing 48 coal and 12 steel per day. It has control over one province (Port-au-Prince) with 5 IC and 39 infrastructure points. 1 man reaches service age each day here. The country has 20 manpower to spend, and this amount wil increase by 1 every 10 months.

itbegins.jpg

Military status:
The country has one half infantry division as army. It is at an organization level of 38 and the group is lead by field marshall Lecot, he has 1 skill point. The attack and defence stats of this unit: Hard attack = 1, Soft attack = 4, Air attack = 1, Defence = 11, Air Defence = 2.
Haiti also controls a port, but unfortunately it has no seaforce at all.

World status:
The situation in the world is not fully stable. The western countries (like France, United Kingdom and America) are not happy with the fascist governments in major powers like Italy and the fast growing Germany. Germany is violating the versailles pact on top of that. And while the involved countries of the first world war are still recovering, the tension between the groups of countries grows.

From now on I’ll call the Haitian country ‘we’

January 2nd 1936:
We have just set up some trades on the world market to meet our lack of rubber and oil. 10 coal for 5 rubber and 10 coal for 5 oil. We also started production of an infantry division and started researching the basic light machine gun, And production as well as research is going slow because We can only affort 2 IC per item.

Military status:
We just used 5 manpower to recrute enough men to make our infantry unit a complete division. The orginazation is 0 now, but we rest assured that it will raise again fast thanks to the leadership of field marshall Lecot. Our men are also exited about the new light machine guns they’ll get sometime later.

World status:
No real changes here, but it’s obvious that the world is eagerly trying to regain industrial capacity, because intelligence reports say that the U.K. started an economic growth prgram, while Stalin approved the second industrialization plan in the soviet union.

About the screenies I have no idea. But I congratulate you on your very first AAR, but you might have some difficulties doing anything due to you are Haiti (that is strangly enough the mightiest country in the world). People like you makes me more motivated to finally get my stuff together and an AAR. Once more: Good work and keep at it.

Just a few things:

1. Great Choice of a Nation.

2. To create a screenshot hit F11 in game. It will create a .bmp in your HoI directory. Use something (for example MS Paint) to convert it to a .jpeg and the go to www.imagashack.com.

3. Good luck on your conquest we shall read eagerly. :D

Greven.

well, as I stated before, I don't think I'm going to pull of a very mighty haitian nation. I have 6 IC and I'm not improving that (I meen, then I'll have 7 IC and I'll lose 3 IC for a year). I'll just try to capture the dominican republic and sue for peace with america (it just always iterferes).
I'm thinking about maybe joining the allies when war breaks out, that way I'll maybe receive the expensive land warfare doctrine techs that are way to expensive for me, and get my org levels up.

About the advice to use Lescot often, I wasn't planning any different. It's my only field marshall and I thought I read somewere that without one close, your troops get -15 combat performance or something like that.

Oh yeah, thanks for the information on how to make and post screenshots Lord G.Q. White.

By the way, I once played Haiti in vanilla 1.06c, and it was easier! They had a whole division IIRC, and even a small navy (I was a bit shocked with only half a division).

I'll update later today, I'm going to do some homework now :( .

January 15th 1936

Another threatening move of Germany takes place, they’ve just re-occupied the rhineland. France, the most nearby member of the allies, isn’t happy with this move, and they grow more unconfident with the situation just across their border, changing their war entry to 10 percent. The U.K. also react and they are currently at a 5 percent war entry level. Across the ocean, America is too busy on her own, war entry only is 2 percent.
Below them, the Haitian army is getting their orginization up, and industry works at full capacity for the army. The training of Haiti’s 2nd division is painfully slow because of the low industry in the country, but it will be completed once. Meanwhile in the research labs the brains of the country try to figure out how to create a basic light machine gun, using all the industrial capacity that has been assigned to them with great caution, to not waste any of the nations few industrial capabilities.

January 22th 1936

At least one war in the world has ended, Bolivia and Paraguai decided to have peace. This leaves the world with two wars left. Italy is still struggling in Ethiopia and Nationalist China has surrounded communist china in the far east. What the world doesn’t know yet, is that the little Haiti is preparing for war against the dominican republic to rule the whole island once again...

February 4th 1936

Economic advisors report that the 10:5 trade coal for rubber isn’t doing any good no more on the world market. We decided to make the trade 20:5. This is 4 coal for 1 rubber, and our economic advisors think this trade will pull it of, and we have enough coal production to afford this.

February 8th 1936

Our new trade setup seems to work, every resource we need is increasing in amount again. This is good, because we don’t want to threat the precious little industrial capacity we have.

March 1st 1936

There’s one more war now, Japan just declared war upon Communist China.

March 4th 1936

Japan now also declared war upon Nationalist China.

June 10th 1936

Italy just annexed Ethiopia. Meanwhile Japan is advancing in china. War entry levels for the big allied countries:
France=10 percent, U.K.=10 percent, U.S.=17 percent
The world is advancing in the direction of the big war to come, and we also continue war preparations. We hope to attack the dominican republic before the end of this year...

July 18th 1936

The spanish civil war just started.

August 15th 1936

Finally the head of army receives word that the 2nd Haitian infantry division is available for deployment. Our army is very glad to have 2 divisions, we now have an army two times the size of the dominican republic's army. Field marshall Lescot is pumping up the morale:”We now have the numbers, and within a few days, we’ll get the new light machine guns as well. We will soon enter the dominican republic, and retake what was once ours!”

The second Haitian division is also placed under command of Lescot. The new division doesn’t have real army experience yet, so Lescot’s most important job at the moment is to get the orginization of the new men as high as possible in a short period of time.

2ndHaitiandivision.jpg

Meanwhile, the industrial capacity that was used for the second division’s equipment, can now be used for the research of the new light machine guns. One additional IC has to be spent on army supplies, too. With 3.8 IC on the research however, the light machine guns must be ready soon.

Once the orginization of the new troops is high enough, and the army finally gets the improved weapons, it’s just a matter of setting a date for the declaration of war on the dominican republic...

Our researchers have finally researched and produced the basic light machine guns. It’ll help our army greatly in the war versus the dominican republic. When the 2nd infantry division has reached a sufficient orginization level, it is finally time to declare war on the dominican republic and claim the island!

finally1.jpg

yes, the only problem is I'll need transports to do that... (I can't build transports)

maybe I'll start researching towards transports when I control the Haitian home island..

August 27th 1936

The orginization of the second infantry division finally reached the maximum. It’s time to get serious... We declare war at 0:00 tomorrow...

August 28th 1936

War is declared against our neighbours to the right. The Haitian population doesn’t fully support this. Dissent rises to 17 percent. But finally we will capture all of our home island, if we succeed that is... First We’ll watch if they attack us and if they don’t, we’ll give the order to attack at 0:00 september 1st 1936...

August 29th 1936

As we expected, the U.S. declared war on us. We allready knew it was going to happen, and we have saved some diplomatic influence for this. We immediately sent our diplomats to the states to sue for peace, and the U.S. accepted. Now we can conquer the dominican republic...

September 1st 1936

We couldn’t get the dominican republic to attack us. Lescot allready knew he had to move out if not under attack by now. The troops march forward, they’ll arrive on october 9th 1936, 20:00..

September 12th 1936

The dominican republic sends its troops towards us, but we keep marching! This was adviced by our military staff, for if we retreat now, the dominican republic is likely to retreat too.

September 22th 1936

We have a large mobilization in Haiti, which will come in handy in the future. We get +30 manpower.

October 9th 1936

The attack begins. The enemy has far more orginization but we have far more numbers. The enemy’s orginization is maintained good but their numbers shrink fast. It’s a long fight, and there isn’t a quick decision on this one, the dominican republic’s soldiers will fight to their deaths.

battlefordr.jpg

November 20th 1936

The phone in our government’s building rings. We pick it up, it’s general Lescot himself! The war is finally over and we were victorious! Unfortunately, many men died in the battle. The enemy was completely whiped out, and we lost many men. About 34 percent of our men died...

The same day we announced the annexation of the dominican republic. Haiti now controls all of its home island, nobody knows what’s the future of this nation, a nation that has shown great inpredictability over it’s decisions..

annexeddominicanrepublic.jpg

The U.S. have also declared war upon us again when we had conquered the dominican republic. We immediately sued for peace, and they accepted again. Hopefully they’ll stay out of this now the dominican republic is annexed...

To be honest I would never annex a country if I had so much dissent. being at war = a lot of IC can be spared on unit construction and research, since conumer goods are less required.

But it's your choice. Keep your expansion rate up! :D

hmm I didn't know that an annexed province loses all IC, now that's one of my typical newbie mistakes, hehe

edit: oh wait, it's going up allready (that was one of the things I didn't know yet)

why is it that I have 2 provinces of 5 IC and can only use 7 IC?
