I am in several established groups. In only two of those have we gotten into the real war. Both games are dead in early 1940 because of HOST CTD issues that we cannot overcome. In both games, we had a host crash. We reloaded. The game ran one hour and the host CTD again. We then tried everything. We tried other peoples' saves. We tried running it in SP and saving. We tried just two players running it for a few days then saving. We tried loading it with everybody, then all but host quitting and the host running it a week. We were sometimes able to get the game to run in SP (I never could with me as the country I play in the MP game), or with just two of us, or when everyone had quit. But as soon as we all got in and tried to run the game, host would crash again.

So, have you played a game with a stable group past 1940? If so, what is your host's PC like? RAM? Processor? Connection?

Wonder whether your save got corrupted

I don't have the save right at hand, but from memory I hosted a 36 that went as far as late '40 early '41. We sure had a couple of ctds along the way, but not as much as to make it unplayable.
My cpu runs at 2.00 Ghz with 256 ram, and my connection is above 1Mb.
Have to say that guests started to experience lag above normal, and I think this has something to do with my ram. ( Upgraded to 512 since then, and possibly soon upgraded again.)

Corrupted Save?

The problem with the corrupted save theory is that the same save will run fine in SP mode if I load it as someone other than my own country. Also, we have used saves made by more than one player in the group, and the same thing happens no matter which save we use. And, we can run a save with two of the 6 players in the game, and it runs fine. But when we try to run that same save with the full group, the host crashes immediately. And, if I run my save in SP as my own country, I crash immediately.

It's very strange, and it is now happening in two different MP series.

We have in 2 sessions gotten from 36 to aug with nearly no CTD's.
Only a few minor bugs have forces us to rehost and a few players have dropped once ir twice. I don't think we had more than 5 rehosts in total.

eek

Well thats grrreaat! It always seems to work for moderators and their groupies. How come it has such problems for the end users...the general public?

A long shot, but a trick that helped once in a HoI1 game that crashed after 1 hour was to edit the date in the save a couple of hours forward.

I played several MP games that were till 43+ on LAN - never saw problems with saves. Unfortunately i saw too many of them in internet games, i think that the most important problem is connected with lag and too high time speed.

That means that HOI 2 is unsuitable for internet play, because the two games I was in that died were being played at below normal speed at the time, and without more than minimal lag.
