Title says it all - we tried starting a multiplayer session with around 30-31 players, but massive desyncs all around.

We tried different hosts, all same issue, constant drops. Some of the people desyncing hare known to us from EU4 and Stellaris so its not their internet.

Things tried: no pausing at start to prevent a backlog of marriage requests, attempting to keep the game running on slow even through the desyncs and letting them hot join back in, attempting to stop game completely and wait for them to hotjoin, nothing seemed to work.

Just curious if others are having major issues like this.

I think this issue is quite common. MP has been the biggest disappointment for me in CK3. Reading their dev diary about how they improved synchronization back then had me hoping that this game unlike CK2 would actually be stable in MP. But it turns out it's just as unstable and no where near Stellaris/EU4/HOI4.

Maybe they'll fix it in the next patch but it's probably low on their priority list.

Yea We tried to host a 15 man game and it was insta desynchs. 10-12 seems to be the safest number of people.

The insta desynching makes me think it's more connection-related rather than errors in the code. Either their servers aren't working well or the host needs better hardware and internet. Maybe hosting on GeForce Now could help.

Surprisingly they fixed Stellaris desyncs back in March which was very nice since that game was unplayable in MP before that. I hope they'll do the same with CK3 soon.

We tried a few games with 8 and then 20 and then 30 players. It always instant desyncs on the bigger games while the fewer players in it the longer the desync takes. I still see no answer to it from paradox even though the error comes 100% for all bigger games and is easy to check.

They announced a MP fix today for Sept. 22. I hope it works.

No idea if it's true or not, but I've heard some claim that you should make sure people aren't actually doing much if anything before unpause, since all the day 1 actions will put a lot of stress on things, while the game will take them better if they are staggered. Also heard hotjoiners should do nothing for a month. NO idea if either is true or just "folk medicine", but something to consider anyways.

It is true. Hotjoiners definitely should not do anything for the first month or so. When people are hotjoining, nobody should use their mouse or keyboard. You can also pause the game every day or two after someone hotjoins to try to help everyone's computers synch up.

I learned all this by running an Imperator MP server. Imperator uses the same servers as CK3, so we are all in the same boat now. We used to run campaigns with 30+ people but now we can barely manage to keep 12 in the game before the desynchs start.
