Seems to me that things are getting quieter in Vnet. And then lately the threads trying to get a permanent game started aren't getting much views and even less answers.

So, I ask: What's going on?

-Do you already have enough of HoI2 Mp?
-Are you already committed with a stable group?
-or are you just waiting for the next patch?

People are perhaps just playing with their friends or in Lans and stuff.

Been in two groups that were showing up for a game every night several days in a row.

Both have sorta dispersed a bit, in my opinion due to the game just plain not working, despite good pc's, good connections, even trying 2 player etc.

Partly given up due to game crashes & lagging out.

I've tried to play MP, but it's not playable yet - desynchronous tech, massive lag, odd bugs, recurring crashes. Maybe later, after a few patches bring it up to v1.0 status.

desynchronous tech // Just wait a few days then start a new tech in same slot dont change slot. Once you start a new tech in that slow you know its working now change the team to somebody else and start a new tech.

massive lag // Ive never had any real lag under a good host.

odd bugs // Plenty of bugs and exploits. What did you expect from paradox?. :)

recurring crashes // This depends on the players. Try a game with 6 good players who wont quit mid-game and dont get new players to take over an AI country mid game. Then you will be fine with few crashes. Ive seen game run for 2-3 years without a single crash due to stable players.

Because MP isnt playable...

Shit last MP game I played, I was USSR and it was winter for over 4 years - WTF????

The fanbois will say just save the game and reload it - I say I should not have too - the game is broken - Just fix the damn game for crying out loud - dont give me walk arounds just fix it already...

Every Paradox games has been like this for years and they refuse to fix it over and over again..

Here is a suggestion Paradox - the way you do MP doesnt work - rewrite your crappy libraries you wrote 10 years ago and make the damn game work..

If you cant do it hire/contract someone who can - then your shit will finally work..

Very Pissed Off :(

Please, Please, Please Paradox fix your net code....

I my group we had a great game going, we play every thursday and finally we got to war.... i had built up and conquered as japan and was pissing my pants with excitement.... then in early 40 a CTD, we reload and CTD etc etc.... thus the game is prolly dead cos of a bug stuck in the save.... now the monday group had exactly the same problem...

I've gotta say i think the game works great lag wise but what the heck is up ?

I could give mp one more shot but if this shit continues what can we do?

back to hoi 1.06c ?

My group doesn't intend to start a game until v1.2 comes out and we've modded most of the really annoying stuff that we can improve (unfortunately there is a lot that we can't mod to fix).

We've done some testing. As far as we can tell it will run stable as long as you do not exceed "slow" speed. I'm very curious if any of the groups reporting lots of problems are simply trying to run the game too fast?

Doesnt matter the game should work at all speeds...

Maybe very fast in MP would only be equiv to slow in SP if one of the MP clients has a modem and a p2-800 but it should not screw the game up...

Me Specifically? (OEMCOMPUTER), For me it was School starting up, combined with my accidental Deletion of my Harddrive, and the need to sit down and make my PC work like new again. So once that is done (Sometime this week) I will be coming back to MP. But, with school on again, I'm afraiod I can't even commit daily :( So...

I run the DEG game on thursdays. The game runs perfectly with 6 players. The few bugs we have encountered will be taken care of ASAP. HOI2 works fine in MP.

I think it is mid term for most students so this may cause that empty vnet too.

As for game, I've played only few HoI2 MPs, last one yesterday. We were three, playing 1936 as Germany with me as host (I have only 128up). I suppose lag-free game depends not only on host up-speeds as we had no problems playing on Below Normal/Normal.

What's strange is that on a wireless lan at my house is that we truck along at Extremely Fast speed all the time. Hell, I have to slow it down sometimes because it's going to fast. We played the 1936 game and the only time we had a CTD was when I couped the US player and his country became California. Apart from that, no problems apart from game problems :) Try sticking to players with cable/dsl connections and see what happens.

And here we see one of the main problems with Paradox. "It works for me, so it works fine." Well, mr. moderator, it must be obvious from all the people posting on this thread that IT DOES NOT WORK PERFECTLY FOR EVERYBODY ELSE. Try not to overgeneralize from your own experience.

The game has serious flaws and very frustrating bugs. Most of them have been present in HOI for a very long time. It does not work "fine in MP" for an awful lot of us.

Yes, and guess what response I've gotten to my bug report w/save?

Nada. Zilch. Several days now, with a followup email, and Paradox hasn't even seen fit to send a "we received your bug report and will see to it as soon as possible" email. I wonder how that is supposed to make me feel as a customer.

MP Games - Lag Issues

We are part of the HOI 2 Aussie Group #2 mob (we have a thread under the Multiplayer Heading - you can see some of our issues in there, too long to quote here...) We are having huge lag problems - for e.g. -- in a 4 person GC 1936 game, the host got to Jan 3, and I was already 30 game hours in lag. I am on 256/64 and about to upgrade to 512/128 (hoping for an improvement) I live in a rural are in Oz and we are awaiting the arrival of DSLAM technology.
I therefore have a couple of questions.

What connection speeds are you and your mates using - down/upload?

What are your basic CPU and memory specs?

Are you using any internet acceleration programs to boost performance?

As you can see from our Aussie group thread, there is a bit of gloom about not getting a good MP experience.

Hope u can help.

Cheers

Paradox games are very reliant on the host. If your host has a crappy connection, especially your upload speed, you will have lags..etc.

It doesn't matter what everybody is on...all that matters is the Host.

I've been playing HOI since ver 1.0... we had guys on 56k dialup..but no lag if the host has a sweet connection.

I would say that if you don't have a dedicated upload speed of at least 256kbps...don't host.

What would be helpful would be if everyone having success with MP would report what kind of a setup they have.

Common reports needed for "successful" MP:
1) Once war has broken out run at only "slow" speed. ("below normal" begins to induce desync problems).
2) Have the host with at least 256K upload speed.
3) Fast CPUs (especially the host) (probably a good idea to plan on the host having a minimum of 2.5 Ghz+)
