Having Troubles Colonizing Ivoria (Coast) HELP!

Hi,
It's 1559. I have tried a few times to establish
a trading post or colony in Ivoria. 2 times for
the trading post and 2 times for the colonly.
I have a level 1 trading post out of this. The
2 attempts at colonization failed and my attempt
at making it a level 2 trading post failed.
Is there something i'm missing? Is there a dynamic
at work at to why i am failing?

Only the southern tip of Africa (Table and Karoo) is easy to colonise.

Apart from the suitability rating, a lot of it is sheer luck. Failing three out of four attempts isn't actually all that bad. I've failed six or seven times in a row.

What were your chances of success? If there are natives in the area, killing them will make it more likely for your colonization to succeed.

also having a conquistador there with an army will increase your chances.

I had to try 18, count them 12 times in oahu (Hawaii) to establis a level 7 colony, but whne I did, pow! 10000 natives joined my colony. Now I have a great stagging area between my colonies on the west coast and Asia.

Would those colonies have a positive growth rate unlike other in Africa?

Think it's negative too but only minor. Just upgrade it quickly to a city and it should start growing.

The provinces of southern Africa start out with positive growth rates when colonized and soon attain quite decent growth rates.

I just colonised Table today and it has -1%. But it's much less than the rest of Africa and after a few upgrades grows quite well.
