Holy Jesus, i found a way to fix it, so if you have this problem and have tried everything in this thread with no win, try this...

Find the folder named "avi" in your Hearts of Iron 2/Doomsday/Armageddon folder, rename it to something else (i used "avi back" without quotes") and when i selected the nation and pressed play it ran flawlessly, hope that i help some people with this.

Windows 7?

I've tried everything. I have Vista and got HOI2 to finally work even with a resolution change to 1440x900. Now after loading Doomsday, HOI2 stopped working, CTD everywhere. Both broken. Will a change to Windows 7 fix this?

Games that crash fix

Hi All,

Please make sure you have setup everything as mentioned in this thread prior to seeing if this fixes things. This is a final step fix.

I can't 100% confirm this will work for every save game. But many games I start at 1936 or... 1938? And I run into problems with the game (specific save) I'm playing crashing. This seems to be save game corruption.

I am playing the hears of iron 2 Doomsday version with all upgrades, playing non-doomsday scenarios. usually standard HOI2 games.

I am running windows 7 or Vista, same problem same fix.

Go to the save game with the problem.
C:\Paradox Interactive\Doomsday\scenarios\save games\ -->typical folder location

Lets say you have a save called, Germany_1943_Aug_23.eug and it's big, you have been playing almost 10 years now.

I noticed that my history log goes back to the beginning and by now is up to 3MB of my total save file.

Make a back up of the file incase you mess it up.

Open it in a text editor like "notepad". It may take up to 5 minutes to open don't panic. If your save is over 100MB in size, you may have to find a text editor other than notepad.

Now scroll down until you find the following or search for it.

eyr = { history = {

I then delete the history until I get to the last 9 months or less. This is just log data, and does not impact the game, and it seems that HOI2 has issues opening huge logs and then property updating them in game.
Save the file and start playing with the now modified game file.

My specific issue is the save game starts just fine, but after a time, and eventually after as little as a day, the game crashes. I noticed a hang a couple of times and saw a new event going into the status bar, it only half filled then full on crash.

It also seems if you never ever play from a save... Manage to keep the game going then this isn't an issue. It seems to be associated with a start from a save with a huge log file and then trying to update the log in the game... it's not updating the save file.

If another patch for HOI2.exe for Doomsday ever comes out again maybe this will help them address it.

Everytime I try to load up a scenario in Doomsday Armageddon (and even Doomsday proper) Windows says it has stopped working. My game uses the 1.2 patch and the avi folder has been renamed....any idea as to what is going on?

Thank you.

EDIT: I solved the problem, had to uninstall and reinstall it.
