Since Europa Universalis was just released I think its time for the much awaited Hearts of Iron III

the europa universalis map is beuatiful and all I can think while playing the demo is how panzer tanks subs cruisers and the luftwaffe would look in such an updated envionment

also the game seems to run very fast and without the notorious slowdowns of hoi2

That is exactly what I was thinking. You really need to make your own thread, as you definitely warrant it.

After playing some "Victoria: An empire under the sun" i must say that the migrationsystem are very funny and, if a sequel will have a longer timespan until modern day, it would be something to copy and then do some improvements on.
But if the next HoI still only covers WWII i guess it wouldn't have anything to add into gameplay.

Along with hellfish6's proposal to make unused transports add to TC, I think that the average infrastructure of a country should also add to TC. Since infrastructure represents the road/rail development of an area, while TC represents the ability of your country to move stuff around, it only seems to make sense. Also, improved infrastructure should improve resource production and (possibly) give a factory production boost (something small, like 1% for each level over 50% or something).

I hav't read the messages before me BUT

1 PLEASE don't make it 3D!!!!!! DON'T
2 better represent the sferoid dimension of earth
3 the population should have an importance (not as important as in victoria)
4 I DON'T want any close ups on the battlefield, I want a serious simulation not graphics mambo-jambo...

I think areas you have owned (That are connected to you´re capital) Should after more and more years go by, start to become cores. I don´t mean one or two years, I´m talking about 6-7 unless by some event maybe.

You do realize that cores in HoI represent areas with population of your country, right? Why on earth would Americans become Japanese after just seven years of occupation??? It takes at least one generation (25 years) to even make a "cultural conversion" possible. Or you need to exterminate the original population and replace it with your own. Which is explicitly forbidden in the rules of Paradox.

This is a WW2 game, not civ.

I do however support an event chain that deals with the Germanization of Eastern Europe after bitter peace.

IMO the most important change would be a more realistic command structure.

Thanks for completely unreading my post.

I ones that are connected to your capital slowly transfer with the right Government type and choices to allow it and it does the closest to your capital first.

I'd almost prefer something like Vicky for a Cold War game, where economics, sociology and political policy are as important as military power. There isn't much large scale combat post WWII and a whole lot more counterinsurgency, which the EU game engine is currently terrible at handling.

I agree. Though i still would like an Cold War era game to be more military oriented than Victoira. I would prefer a mix between HOI och Victoria with setting around 1945 into the next millenia, 2001 or so. But it wouldn't be HOI3 then, but would prefer an Colw War game over HOI3, cuz HOI2 works fine.

The techsystem of HOI is to prefer over Vichys techsystem.
And a trade with actual armaments, that i produced in individual factories like in Victoria. Very few states to day have a military industri of there own to supply them with what they need. Most buy what they need from abroad.

Say you only got one aircraft factory, but wants to build spyplanes och fighterplanes. First you build your spyplanes, and when they're done, you assign your factory to build fighterplanes.

And it can't be as many resorces as in Vichy. But i would like to see more than HOI. Oil is an obvious resource, though it has to be processed into fuel as in Vichy. So you can strike out the fuelfactories of one nations and soon it's motorised divisions, naval forces and aircrafts i out of fuel.
Metals is obvious, though it maybe has to be more specific, as you need uranium for nuclear power, propulsion and weaponry. Maybe copper and silicon for electronics and aluminium for later aircrafts. Electricity, food of course.

And there should be an option for biologial warfare, both targeting personel and agriculture.

The engine must be sphereical så you can send submarines, missiles and aircraft over the north pole.

Other resources like cars, drugs, television, coffe, tobacco, alcohol could be nesseties to keep your citizens happy and maybe attract educated personel form abroad to give you a research bonus.

There are so many events through that period that would be fun to play through an maybe change the outcome. Should your nation join EU, OPEC, UN, the Geneva conventions, Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, the START-treatys?

How will you act trough the vienam war, the oil crisis, suez crisis, falkland wars, cuban crisis, korean war? As UK will you reclaim your lost provinces, or let them be independent nations?

Improving ressources and production system, it's a good idea but HoI hasn't to become Vicky. HoI is easier than Vicky, so adding a POP system in HoI would be too heavy.

Regarding biological warfare, i don't think that Paradox will agree. There is no terror bombing in HoI, so why would there be biological weapons ?

Well becouse both the Allied & Soviet Union developed bioligical weapons during the Cold War, hoof-and-mouth disease to target enemy cattle, african swine fever against pigs and probalby something against chickens too.

Historical accuracy is a reaseon good enough for me, but it also adds to diversive gameplay.

Not too talk about all the biological warfare against human personel. No i wouln't want the POP-system from Vichy in a new game, but atleast make the civilians play a bigger role than in HOI.

Increasing the kinds of attacks is a good idea, but biological weapons were produced for killing humans or animals, so and in HoI there is not this kind of strategy.

Like training soldiers from a national workers pool and the contrary ?

The nickname of Victoria is not Vichy but Vicky ^^
Vichy is a French town :p

I actually felt kinda sad when I read the word 'provinces' :(
If they've sorted out the air management, I'll be very happy though. Hear me Johan! :)

I've come to think one thing. I would like every aspect of the management, economic, spionistic and military, from the building of each division to the allocation of materials and storage points, changeable. But also i would like that, after the customization, one could automatize that decisions. I mean. In 1933 (or 34, or when you think you want to change the defaults) you could choose size and formation and training of your units. then you come back to normal control. Same thing for diplomacy for example. What if germany in 1936 choosed to put every economic output in trying to secede poland instead of attacking it? I mean That unification in Austria could be easily explained with: Nearest to germany (i mean cultural and racial), number of population that that nation own(propaganda is not cheap, 1.000.000 is easy but 50.000.000???), intelligence support and counter intelligence of that country support,... Etc. In 1936 you could have to choose to Invest in the anschluss, and that will cost over the next years. You could set the operation and then the materials needed will be given automatically. same way if you choose to keep urss easy. In 1939 you could start an operation to keep urss at peace with you and to keep your border safe, even if you invade turkya.... I think that king of game would please me. Well, also with some other suggestion as more provinces, etc. This kind of customization i am proposing could easily function even in tech research. You have basic research that allow to research of specialized teck. Let's make also an example on this. Germans specialized in tanks very soon. well. You could research tank tecnology level 1. then you could research more power in projectiles and more precision and less consumption and so on. Discover the nuclear bomb was the same for every country. Same the tanks. How you build them is what makes the difference. If you have researched highter materials (Metal leagues, etc) and high level of tank research, than you could build a tank allowing you to decide weapon power and armor and speed allowing specializations to define your tank and better it for you uses (or you could keep the default allowing name and specifications to be keeped by the game as history command). Once done. you keep your selection (or even build more than one selection) allowing you the power to decide and use at best.

Well.... hope this would convince paradox. what do you think?

Oh. Another thing. If one has enough money, it should and could be possible to research more, allowing even more research groups to follow and collaborate at the same research. And allowing more than 5 research groups. A little addendum

Why, no matter what country do some Generals have the "Panzer Leader" ability?

When I was the UK, Canada and USSR I saw leaders with "Panzer leader" ability, even though panzer is German. I know its only a small thing, but it should be easy to change.

Also...

If the game wants to be even more historical, Germany could INVADE Poland on the 1st September 1939, without declaring war (with could cost more belligerence then if it declared war). Then Britian and France declare war on Germany on the 3rd September, then within the week Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa declare war (I know Canada declared war on the 10th) so somehow edit that event as well.
I know its illegal in Germany and represents "evil itself" but I would like it if Paradox used the actual NSDAP flag just to make a bit more accurate.
They could make the industrial side even more detailed, as you could make vehicle, weapons, aircraft and ship factories, rather then just factories and you could make planes and train the pilots seperately.
Also they could somehow edit the AI to recreate the "Phoney war" if you're Germany.
Plus they could have an event for the 10th May 1941, when Rudolf Hess parachutes into Scotland - Britian can arrest him or accept his surrender; Germany can assassinate him, leave him or agree with what he's doing.
Also on March 15th 1939, when Germany "annexes" Czechoslovakia, they can have the option to annex all of it, create Slovakia (Slovak Republic) as a puppet, create Slovakia and Czech Republic (Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia) as puppet states or to leave it alone.
