Great DD!

When a civil war is started, how are the armed forces of that country divided between the factions? Are they equal or does one side always have an advantage?

Same question but for resources and industry?

i.e. a major power falls into civil war.

its a design thing because this is a game. The world is a sandbox for player, but if every AI would use this mechanic there would be no WW2. I can think of a few cases where it may make sense for AI to do it, so we might add it though.

The feature would be great in Sandbox mode, not so great in the historical setting, like you said.
So if it is no problem code/programming-wise, I'd like to see this feature included for the AI, please. And maybe add a toggle or only enable it in sandbox mode :)

In the case of the americas, the Brazilian Government will be considered fascist in game?

If Yes, the United States will also spend diplomatic power and equipment to start a civil war in Brazil by the reaffirmation of the monroe doctrine?
Brazil I'm assuming will be neutral, like Greece.

The size of the revolter depends on how much support that ideology has, the national unity of the nation and how much equipment is sent. Armie's reources get split along this as well

Does the quality of the resources sent have any influence as well, so will Level 2 Infantry Equipment do a better job than Level 1, and does this depend also on the tech level of the target nation?

With the risk of being slightly off-topic, is it just me or the new UI and art style is looking really slick?! I hope this is the style that defines how the release version will look, because the cartoonish look is spot on, IMO. I liked the technical, no non-sense style of HoI3 too and it worked well and apart from a couple of screens that were standing out as different, it gave the game a feel of its own.

Back on topic: keep 'em coming, the dev diaries. The civil war seems a bit simplistic at first glance, but it all depends on how nations & internal factions are defined. This depends mostly on how political "turmoil" spreads, so I think this diary served its purpose well, but now I want to know more about how politics and ideologies work specifically and what's the purpose of it, how should this impact gameplay? Are historic events more likely to occur, if ahistoric events don't occur or do they all have a similar likelihood of occuring depending on what the AI decides for each nation?

So, one big armada might becomes two flotillas who just open fire on each other?

Will you take special conditions in certain countries into accord; for example after the Finnish civil war all Red organizations were more or less banned, especially those of paramilitary nature. White paramilitary organization were left intact, functioning as "Suojeluskunnat" until 1944 when they had to be dissolved.
So in example of foreigners trying to stir trouble, Finland would have an army mostly composed of White officers, with large amounts of these Security-corpses all over the country ready to rally in help of a White government in case of another red uprising. Thus a very large amount of army would very likely remain on the white side.

This is one of the reasons why Soviets had no hopes of achieving a coup in Finland pre-WW2, as the country was so adamantly against another red uprising that it had taken a variety of measures to prevent a new civil war.

I'm assuming any equipment donated for a coup ends up in the new nation's equipment stockpile. What happens to the stockpile of the nation that is the target of a coup or civil war? Does that split as well, based on the overall split in support?

Thank you for DD.
Looks to be nice.

Questions :

yes, you can defend yourself with party boosting ministers (there are also things from focuses and national spirits). Other players may also help out.
And other AI ? Can they help you also ?

What if in your Greek example, I actually have some infantry divisions in Thrace but no decent port to supply them ?

Eventually, did you guys think about previous DD's fuel related BIG worries, could you open the door to some improvements ?

Wow, this was so needed in previous HoIs, kudos!

In HoI III the Spanish Civil War often lasted only six to nine months or sometimes less. Is that also true in HoI IV?

Hard to say when we are still working on stuff and balance can change. I'v seen 2 years, I'v seen them fight on in 1940 too so it varies.

Another question. Do you get experience for equipment donated to a foreign civil war like you do lend lease?

yes (its one of the reasons to do it)

How do you handle cases where the two sides were different shades of the same color? Take February 26th incident for example, on one hand you have the government effectively controlled by entrenched generals and admirals, on the other you have national socialist officers rebelling, what would become of it? Or would that remain an event?

This is awesome. Not just for HoI4, when Victoria 3 comes out it can finally have real civil wars too instead of the old individual rebel stomping. :D

Besides, now it will be possible to play as America and spread some glorious democratic FREEDOM around the world a bit earlier than real life, and without any need to directly send troops. Or have a communist 'elected' as American president with Soviet 'help'. I hope there will be even more great options like these.
