Temperatures hover at or around a very mild and pleasant -20C and day is progressively returning to the city after it's month-long absence.

This week, coming at you Live from the Arctic circle proper, is the Hell Home City News:

Tensions mount between the Anderson and Rock Faerie districts this week, reaching an all-time high as the school championship games loom nigh. What began as a healthy rivalry steeped in friendly tradition has devolved into something more palpably volatile, and there now exists a barely veiled hostility betwixt the two districts, threatening to explode even onto the streets as Police and Fire departments step up their disaster readiness in preparation for the annual event. The Memorial Hospital in downtown Rock Faerie experienced already a rash of violence related injuries prevalent especially in the leisure district and music festival grounds where earlier this month Lily La Roux wowed audiences by performing in the buff causing no small number of young adults to shed their clothes also and streak the length of Lagrange street. The Anderson University reports similar injuries occurring at their campus clinic as a result of the upcoming match. Citizens of both districts are being cautioned by the newly appointed joint Chief of Police not to venture into these uniquely polarized areas and to "seek fellowship with, as well as remain with, their own kine during this trying time."

The match between the Anderson Atoms and the Rock Faerie Fireflies begins this Friday, 5 April, at 19:00 and takes place at the Anderson Atoms Gymnasium on Fifteenth street. The university has again generously donated additional nearby space for parking as those in attendance are anticipated to exceed the number of last year's which was estimated to be upwards of twelve-thousand, many times that of the gymnasium's official occupancy rating, and tickets were sold out before the season began. Attendees are encouraged to bring warm clothing and be prepared to spend the entire night on campus. Food and refreshments will be sold by the team's respective booster clubs. Police and Fire, as well as Medical, will all be standing by and ready to assist.

In Current Events said:
The mayor of Rock Faerie was arrested and charged last week with Attempted Murder in the First Degree when he approached Mayor Doe, of Anderson, outside his Cogburn Circle home wielding an illegal spring-action knife and lunged at his throat. Fortunately Mayor Doe was able to wrest the weapon from him, batter him senseless, and Teleport to safety before being nicked. His Chief Executive of the Interior Offices had this to say when asked to comment; "We, the city, are just so glad Mayor Doe was able to escape the attempt on his life unharmed. There was never any interruption in his duties. He continues to work hard, and we look forward to seeking justice in Court. In the meantime it is business as usual."

In Opinion said:
In an unprecedented move, the Rock Faerie district council did this week elect Mayor Doe as "Mayor Interim" and hopes that "[it] may well help to restore peace in this period of extreme strife as well as foster a new period of cooperation between our two districts," citing issues such as personal and insurmountable differences between the elected officials in the past, the lack of a public forum and an ill-informed citizenry, as well as obscure and sometimes conflicting boundary agreements which were only vaguely defined when the township charters were drawn up, and de jure drift as those which most contribute to the present circumstances, and those issues which might be a priority in the coming month.

When asked what it felt like to be mayor of both Rock Faerie and Anderson so suddenly, Mayor Doe simply raised his pint and smiled smugly to the delight of his fellow patrons at the Thirsty Clam, a renowned and favorite haunt of his on Eight-and-a-Half street, where he has been for the past 6 years invested with total confidence and celebrant applause, and can almost always be reliably accessed after office hours - and sometimes during.

While Mayor Doe may enjoy unanimous support of both district councils and immense popularity among his constituency, one wonders if it will be enough to steer our city out of the downward trend toward chaos which has been the general spiraling course these past several years. Has Doe the brains as well as the brawn? We will undoubtedly see in the Days ahead.

In Business Finance said:
Mayor Doe made it his first act as Mayor Interim to secure funding for, and begin accepting sealed bids for a new Kepler street onramp so that ranchers and farmers may again access Highway 81. We might recall last September during the peak of the harvest season when the previous Rock Faerie mayor upset the agricultural industry upon which we all, citizens of Hell Home, rely by banning heavy traffic in and around the Memorial Parkway without warning nor discussion and offered no alternative routing effectively cutting off the region. The new policy exacerbated sweeping layoffs and massive unemployment, and left the future of thousands of households throughout the city in question as many families were forced to weather the encroaching long winter and endure harsh economic hardship without an income nor supplies.

The announcement was broadcast at 08:45 by our very own Rock Faerie Vintage Music Station and by noontime there were local business owners from that region and workers alike accompanied by their families swamping First street in front of City Hall in what can only be described as an open celebration of joy and relief. And just in time for planting season! One citizen was overheard chanting, "Thank you, Mayor Doe! We love you!" The crowd numbered in the thousands and traffic was veritably halted all the way from Lagrange to Newton as of press time. The jubilee is expected to last several days.

For those companies and individuals interested in submitting a sealed bid for the construction of the new access, details can be obtained at the city Tax Offices on Tenth street beginning immediately and will no longer be accepted after 1 June. Other details, such as project completion, will be announced as soon as they are forthcoming.

In Other News said:
Despite widespread unemployment, a failing industry, growing civil unrest, and 28 days of near or total darkness, Hell Home's population increases from 16k to 18k during the past six winter months. Rock Faerie's Music Festival district reports a booming trade in tourism and 1.5k students enroll for the spring Semester at the Anderson University.

Rising sea levels inundate residents of nearby Kulusuk and Tasiilaq. Hell Home a likely destination for displaced refugees.

The Mainland Corporation purchases the lease on a long strand in the nearby Ogremark forest and invests heavily in transportation and emergency helicopter services for the Hell Home area. Brings much needed cash infusion to local economy as well as manufacturing industry.

The freight ship Judy How capsizes attempting to navigate the sound. Hundreds of thousands of rusty petroleum barrels wash ashore.

Attached is a bird's-eye cinematic view of the lower half of Ogremark Island. Everything (except some bulldozer work I've accomplished on the north half) so far.

A bit of background; After having been a quiet observer for some time and felt I had no Thing to contribute really, nor the space or specs for video editing software, image hosting, etc, I began feeling the urge to start a journal because it is what I liked best to read on this forum, people's adventures in nurturing little cities, establishing a premises, and overcoming - or being overcome by - the challenges of traffic and waves of death. Unfortunately I speculated that I was too far along in my own adventure, and penultimately I wouldn't have the time to dedicate in regularly updating it.

Full disclosure, I have owned the game for approx. a year and I am no stranger to this map. I played a few others, did some scenarios, but none captivate my interest insomuch as this one does, the Icy Islands map which came with the Snowfall content. But about a five months ago I reached what I thought was a landmark achievement, that of a population exceeding 140k and came to the sudden realization; I wasn't winning. I previously thought that growing steadily and as rapidly as possible was the objective. But I was no longer having fun, I was pulling my hair out, and my perspective was changing. Once I even started yelling, "stupid Dev's! I wish I could ban the words Slope and Steep and Invalid Shape and Space is Already Occupied." but I quickly realized I was just yelling at a cute little innocent laptop. Then came the fatal blow, that day I went to plant a tree or many on Ragamoffyn Island so that I might build more sorely needed timber industry there and lo, would you know it, I discovered there are only a million trees allowed, and all the time I'd played I never once bothered to bulldoze them already there which were then hiding under my streets and zones, neither had I ever prepared the land with some of the terraforming tools before I expanded... my interest right then entirely dissolved.

Until lately. With the cold months coming on and perhaps some more time to, I decided to begin again and to rejoice in my mistakes, yet not make the same ones all over again. If I do, that's okay too. It's fixable probably. This time to grow more slowly, at a more leisurely pace, and to have fun rather than stress myself as I was, to not get peeved at (mostly myself) drawing roads. And to keep a journal. For my pleasure, not anyone else's, but perhaps I might give back to this comm. something which I've taken in doing so. I swear, while some relish planning and drawing and naming stuff, I think I take the most pleasure from imagining my city from the first person point of view. I ask myself, "why did that truck just ram the other?" and "how did that seemingly random fire start?" My imagination starts pounding. Perhaps John was fooling around on Jane with Jack, and Jane found out and set Jack's flat on fire, then she chased John down in his much cherished brand-spanking-new toy of a super duty four wheel drive and totaled the sucker while under the influence of seaweed and brownies.

So this may not be regularly updated, I'm not going to commit myself to something I may well not have the time to next week, next month, or even tomorrow. Just me having fun and maybe you might have fun at reading, and we all win!

Some info you might probably definitely maybe want to know: Vanilla, yeah. No mods, it's not that I don't think I will like them, I think I'd love TM;PE but I'm just faithful to how I think the game was meant to be played and I do like lofty challenges. And whatever I do, I will take comfort in knowing others can duplicate the results of without the use of them.

As I said, Icy Islands map. Available with the Snowfall content or downloadable at Steam (for free I think?).

Goals, as I said, play casually, no victory conditions, grow slowly. I'm setup and ready to rock, we're 10 years in now. And I feel I actually grew too fast we've 17.8k cims - about twice as many as I anticipated. Initially I thought I'd just get my budget in the black, lay down the foundation, and form something like a few arcs for story's sake. But oh well, it is what it is.

I'm looking forward to this weekend's play session. I've spent the last several days cleaning up the north side of Ogremark but mostly getting ready to prompt a couple events and establish how the Truce Ferry came about. I hope it goes smoothly, I'd like to get at least 8 hours in. I may have a little time to get a village going on Hell Home Island proper and perhaps Burning Witch Island too but I want to exercise extreme care if I am to ambulate right on into the ferry-building phase as I do intend to build/rebuild the highway network on the water surfaces, also. If you read some of the journal I posted you may well surmise some of the fun I've got planned for myself, may even guess as to what is coming up in the next installment.

Anyway, hey, yes I'll answer questions, explain some of the decisions I made if you wonder about them. Please bear with me, it's my first time and I've never done anything like this. Will accept criticism even if it's negative, but may not reply to it. Will definitely not reply to comments about how I've too many grids (I'm from the USA and I like grids even if they don't work well in life nor C:S) I will be using grids, and like to lay down the lovely curvaceous good stuff on top of them.

So. Hi. And welcome to Hell Home.
