Help! Eu2 doesn´t initialize anymore!

A couple of days ago i decided to reinstall Eu2 in my WinXP SP2 laptop computer. I had already installed it there previously until I uninstalled it about two years ago (i finally got Hoi2, if you know what i mean ;-) ). So to make this clear: Eu2 used to run on my computer, but now it doesn´t anymore.

Eu2 initializes fine, the music runs, vids are running, but it won´t load the game! I get a CTD when that happens. None of the FAQ fixes seem to help, so I´m asking you to help me.
Im using the Strategy-Pack 6 Version of Eu2, which already comes patched up to 1.08 and I tried this version and 1.09 .


This is the problemsig I get from WinXP:

So, what do you guys make of this? I´d be really happy for any kind of advice.

I have no idea what your problem might be. Can you successfully install and run on another machine? If not the CD is bad.

Could there be leftovers from the previous install still on the disk? You could go through the uninstall process, including cleaning up the registry, at http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=1101930#post1101930; then defrag the hard disk and install EU2 again.

Also before you run it for the first time, rename the AVI directory under the main EU2 directory to stop the video from running.
