I read the FAQ for trying to make EU II run correctly. After doing most of the things they suggest, it runs better, but still crashes often enough to be annoying. The thing I didn't do was update my drivers, because I don't know where to get them can anyone help?

Thanks. I've lurked for some time, before finally posting.

do you have the latest patch installed? This solved the crash issue for me.

I need to know what hardware you have...

Video card, sound card, motherboard, etc..

Drivers are written by the vendor of the hardware they are for. So video drivers come from the web site of the company that made your video card.

Ok- It'll just take me a while to dig all the brochures for the hardware out of the boxes. I ran Direct X and the DX dialog said that the driver for my monitor wasn't recognised by Windows, apart from that no problems. I'll have the details tonight.

By the way, I found a noticeable increase in performance when I installed the latest version of Direct X- 8.1 B I think.

Well, I had a look at my drivers- so I should do a web search for the companies that produce them?

Yes :)

Samtron 56 E 17 inch monitor

Butterfly sis 6326 Video Graphic Accelerator

AMR plus mainboard
I can't find it.

NEC super 21 net mouse
I couldn't find any drivers for a mouse on NEC's site, so they are probably using generic windows mouse driver. No updates here.

Samsung SC 152 52 speed CD rom

You can download a firmware update.

IDE type 46 20 GB hardrive
IDE is the type of interface, not the brand. Anyway, for the HDD there is probably nothing to download, everything we can find, we'll find it on the mb company's web site.

Cyrix III 733 Mhz processor
I can't access the site, but anyway, there is nothing to download for the processor. We need to find the motherboard company's web site.

C-media CM18738/C3DX PCI audio device (sound
card)

256 MB of SD RAM
there is no drivers for RAM.

Also, go to Windows Update and download all critical and recommended components.

:) Thanks very much, especially Viper. I've updated most of my drivers- haven't found the motherboard one yet, I suspect the name on the CD for my motherboard may not be correct. Is there any way that I can check what kind of motherboard I have, through the control panel, msconfig or something similar?

I'm not sure about windows update. It won't let me install antything. This may be good, as it means that I have nothing to install, or alternately , it is playing silly buggers. It keeps giving me the following message

Administrators Only

To install items from Windows Update, you must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure.

Fools! I am running Windows 98 second edition by the way. I disabled my virus checker before trying. MS. bah!

Administrators Only
when you log onto Windows, do you need to type a user name and password? If so, there are a few solutions, if not, I'll have to try to find something else.

For the motherboard, technically, when you bought your computer they should have given you a box, the motherboard box that contains various things (extra cable, manual, etc.) It should be written "motherboard" somewhere on the box as well as the manufacturer's name and the model#. the box is about 12"x12"x3" thick.

I knew of a site that identified your hardware, but unfortunately, they are now charging 29.95$US for their software :(

:)

I found out what was causing the Windows update site to not work- common sense really. My ISP used a user name that was different to the login name of my computer, which was the same as when I bought it. I couldn't change the name I logged in with, but I could change my login name for my computer, and it started working. Obvious in hindsight- but now I have to log in to Windows.

I've downloaded all my drivers. There was a bit of a problem with the sound, as Windows update tried to install its own, which stuffed up, but it fixed up when I went to the companies own website and downloaded it myself.

I still can't find what motherboard I have. The name I gave you was off of a CD I got when I bought the computer from a shop. The CD itself seems to have a whole host of motherboard drivers. I don't have a box for the motherboard, just a CD with the drivers. Maybe I'll just try running without updating the motherboard, and see what happens. Either that or I'll ring the shop and ask what I bought, if they have kept records back from when I bought it, which was roughly 1 year ago.

Merci beaucoup, Viper, :) . Au revior.

if everything is working fine now, than just forget about the MB :) it's not critical, but it can help with overall performance :)

Well, it still crashes every now and then. It doesn;t work perfectly, but thanks anyway Viper. I'll try and find the motherboard.
