Help - having trouble reinstalling EU2

After I started seeing the AI get normal war exhaustion in v1.04, and one or other anomalies (basically it was reverting back to v1.03), I decided to completely remove it, and re-install the whole lot.

However, while installing it, it stops at 84% complete and after a couple of minutes it says that the file is corrupt (or something similar) - basically the problem occurs when it is installing some mp3 file in the program.

So is there any way I can get around it other than getting a new CD for it?

The exact wording is this:

An I/O error occurred while installing a file. This is normally caused by bad installation media or a corrupt installation file.

if there is an option to not install the music, try it.

before buying another CD, try to install the game somewhere else.

have you checked for viruses recently? With a recent AV software? (Norton 2002 is good).

try do reduce the cache of the cd-rom and see if that helps.

to be more specific, I'll need to know your hardware. Check the "Running problems thread" on top of the forum, try some of the things there (click on the uninstall link and follow the procedure described there to remove EU2 completely), and then post your hardware config.

Thing is, is that I've reinstalled it before without any problems, which is why I suspect it may the CD itself (scratched?) that could be the problem. However, I will check whether I have completetely uninstalled EU and also I will defrag my drive (though i'm not sure how this would affect it, unless of course the music mp3 file where it's stuck on can't find a big enough clear space on the hard drive)

Anyway, I've got an AMD Duron 700Mhz processor with 320Mb of memory & 20Gb hard drive, not sure about video card.

it could be a virus affecting another file too. possibilities are endless

That's why you should try to install it somewhere else before exchanging your CD, in case it isn't broke.

OK - problem solved - all I had to do was clean the CD surface, and it installed perfectly, lol!
