Hello all,

New to this board and game so please forgive me if I missed this problem being addressed already. I did a search but didn't see an answer.

The problem I am having is that while trying to load up my save game from last night it seems that all of my saved games for about the last 50 years are invalid (Including my autosave). I was playing the Grand Campaign as Spain. I had installed the latest patch before I started playing. When I load up the game, if I try to select any of my recent saved games it won't let me click on start (button is just greyed out). If I load an older game and then try to load a recent save then the game loads up the saved game then crashes to desktop.

I hope someone can help me out. Thanks,

John

Corrupted saved games are virtually impossible to recover. I'd say you are SOL. Sorry.
In EU1 there was (is?) a bug where saved games (especially autosaved games) became corrupted. I don't know if this is still an issue with EU2, or you are an unfortunate victom of this crime :).
Maybe the support forum could help you out more.

happens to me too quite frequently....I would have to say it's the most god damnned anoying thing to happen, play 30 years only to find out the next day you cant continue where you left off. If anything, i think this needs more fixing than any gameplay issue.

My suggestion is to do a manual save once in a while so you know it is actually saved. I don't use autosave so I haven't run into this problem.

Thanks for responses so far

Well, I uninstalled the game, reinstalled it, started playing again (same country and campaign) and IT HAPPENED AGAIN!.

I'm playing EUII, and both my auto save as well as my manual saves after a certain year become corrupted. I'm wondering if it has something to d owith the name change when Castille changes to Spain as the bug shows up sometime after that...

I like the game, but I'm about to throw it out into the street.

save under a different name each game, and it should solve your problem.

if you want more help, see the running problems thread, try the suggestions, if nothing works, then post me your complete config.

Thanks all for the suggestions

Thanks all. I think I have tracked down the problem. It definitely occurs right after the change from Castille to Spain. I'm wondering if the program doesn't know how to bring up "Spain" since the game doesn't start off with Spain as an option in the Grand Campaign.

if you still have one of your working saved games (before castille becomes spain), please send it to me at *deleted*

save game problem

I have the same problem as 1Journyman, every time Castille changes to Spain, the save game in both manual and auto doesn't work and kicks you back to desktop. I tried a number of different names and variations and it doesn't work. Happens somewhere towards end of 1476-77.

Viper37, if you figured it out let me know send me email, mac5732@hotmail.com

appriciate it, its like playing for nothing:(

just some ideas mac

if you save your game under a specific name, right before the change (let's say one month before), and you save it under another, right after the change, does it work? Save it under a different name than the default one.

Tried it

Nope. I've tried saving under different names, tried default names, tried the autosaves... The name of Spain seems to be the kiss of death for the campaign. None of them work. If you notice the saved games of "Spain" do not even seem to be valid on the load screen where you choose what scenario you want to play. (The screen you go to after the introduction when you first load the game). The game won't let you go past the opening screen if you choose a saved game where the transition has previously occurred.

yes, it could be it. I haven't had the time to check the files yet :)

my problems are identical to 1Journeyman, I went into the scenerio file and checked and all the Spain scenerios were there it just wouldn't let you load them. I also tried various names, variations, etc to no avail. Even went back to prior save and played up to where it stopped and tried different variations. I even went to a prior game, after starting it, went to game menu, cliked load, Spain sceneros came up, clicked on them, screen went to load screen and then flashed right back to the desk top. I'll be more then happy to look for the duplicate entry that Nabil mentioned if you tell me where to look. tks

just some ideas mac

look in your save game file

I don't have it right in front of me, but in the first lines, you should see the tags and description of all playable nations ("major"). Look at it and see if there are doubles.

ok. I think I've managed to go it to work properly, at least on my machine.

If I try to load a saved game of Castille while being Spain, it will crash to desktop (ctd) and vice-versa.

However, surrendering and then loading the game from the main menu doesn't result in crash. I've tried it several times on my machine and this is how I've got it to work, with both your save games journeyman and two I made here.

Hello again

First off, thanks Viper for persuing this. Second, sorry Mac to hear you are having the same problems.

I'll be honest with ya, I'm just a bit further advanced than the average kangeroo when it comes to computer programming. I'm willing to do whatever it takes, but I'm too stupid to do it on my own. I'll keep checking here to see what you guys find out...

John

tell if it works for you loading from the main menu instead of in the game.

Hmmm

Well, that is strange. No, from the main menu, I cannot load the "Spain" scenario I sent you. I mean, literally, I cannot load it. I can see its name listed in the column of save games, but if I click on it, the start button is toggled off. In order to start the game I have to load a different save game or start a new one.

Thanks for trying,

John
