Hiya,

I have very bad screen tearing. I have forced v-sync to on, and I've set max pre-rendered frames to 1, but there is no difference. If I edge scroll or WASD the screen tearing is extreme. I am using a TV as a monitor.

When I start the game is tells me to copy an activation number, and tells me the game will ask for it. The game launches every time with a Steam overlay that I have to manually close, but the game never asks for the number. I have only played for moments however, as I'm trying to resolve the screen tearing.

Every time I exit the game, the programme stops responding and windows tells its little joke about finding a solution for me.

Any help or advice is welcome and needed too.

Thank you.

P.S. This is a repost from the main forum, but as others were grouped into my post by a moderator their screen tearing issues may not even be read. I don't know how to solve this, but wanted you guys to see my issue.

Later Edit:

If any other customer has extreme screen tearing, it may be worth using the launch option -force-d3d9 This will force DX9, and that worked for me. It will get us through the first night, as I kind of think that CO are going to be feeling the pressure this evening. I hope it helps you guys.

Some progress and information for the devs:

If I force DirectX9 the tearing goes away! I force with the launch option -force-d3d9 as given in the FAQ for another issue. I don't know what this means to you software guys, but I hope it will give you a clue as to the issue.

It may be coincidence, but I am no longer CTD upon game exit. I will try to do some tests and let you know.

Update for devs:

I've tried a number of times now and can confirm that, for me, forcing to DX9 fixes two issues:

1. It looks like extreme screen tearing, but probably isn't as forcing v-sync with nvidia options does nothing. If I force to DX9 it goes away.

2. When using DX11 I get a crash "cities.exe has stopped working" every time I exit the game to the desktop. Forcing to DX9 fixes the issue. The issue is repeatable every time.
