I tried to setup to play an MP the other day and hit a brick wall.

I killed everything running on my computer except the ones TaskManager wont let you kill. Logged onto the net and loaded up EU.

After about 5 seconds, the EU screen minimized and as far as I can tell, stopped altogether. I tried maximizing it and got a brief flash of a black screen, then it minimized again. Lather, rinse and repeat this excitement about 5 times.

I have 2.3g Celeron machine with 512m RAM, and, sigh, a dialup connection, altho at this point the connection didnt enter into it.

I think it's probably an insufficient RAM problem, but before I upgrade, I'd like some feedback if anyone else had the same problem and found a solution.

I get the same problem if I try to open EU without closing all the other running programs. It also happens with CK, in all the same circumstances.

Any thoughts or help?

Thanks

You have a problem when you load with the 4 figures? Or when the video ("dedicated to all our fans,etc...") load?

If you have problem when the video load try renaming you AVI folder to AVI_back, which will "kill" the video.

If you have problem with the loading screen with the 4 figures, maybe you have some registry problem, spyware or virus. Try Spybit : Search & Destroy for spyware. You could also find easily a registry cleaner for free. Anti-virus as well.

As Ryoken pointed, maybe your operating system is no good. another possibility is an incompatibility with one of your peripheral. Update all your drivers.

yeah, it's confusing as hell.

OS is XP/Sp2, with all the security updates. All drivers are up to date. EVERYTHING but essential services are turned off (incl FW and AV)

AVI and Music are both renamed, so in normal operation, it just opens to the CK load screen.

*IF* I am connected to the net, the problem occurs. If I am not connected, then the game runs flawlessly. I am going to try in a bit and see if I can open the game and then connect, and then pick multiplayer. I am not hopeful :)
