  • Hearts of Iron II: Armageddon
I've been playing HOI2-DD for a long time. I just bought the Armageddon upgrade (1.2) and installed it. Everything seems fine, but when the software tries to load any scenerio, the screen eventually goes black and it crashes. Any ideas?

NO help?!

I tried changing the avi folder name, no change. The program loads and I get to select single player mode. When I select any scenerio to play, the software loads the next splash screen and begins running the bar across the bottom. Somewhere in loading scenerio, it dies, and I get a black screen. Any other ideas?

No Luck

renaming the AVI folder doesn't help. DD 1.3 works fine, but ARM 1.0, 1.1 or 1.2 all fail to work. This seems like an issue with Armageddon.

I checked the other links and their solutions are identical (AVI folder related). This doesn't help me.

Any other ideas??

Check and/or update your video and sound drivers.

From the first thread I posted

from the second

The fix I had may or may not work for you. I have the X-FI xtremeMusic card and I updated to the most recent drivers on Creative's website here . It automatically uninstalled the old drivers and installed the new drivers. Now I have no problems with starting HOI2 DD arma.

Your problem is a video or sound problem somewhere.

Sound and Video Drivers now the most current

I updated my audio drivers (video was already most current). No change. I uninstalled HOI and re-installed. HOI2 DD works fine. All versions of Armageddon lock up while trying to load any selected scenerio.

I'm running XP SP3 on a 2.4Ghz machine with 1GB of RAM.

Any other ideas??

What else do you have running on your PC when the lockup occurs? Check the windows task manager to find out. Aside from other program apps lots of things usually load up into memory, like antivirus, firewalls, etc. You might try shutting as many of these other things off and then start armageddon. If it loads then you have a conflict with one of them, and you can methodically disable each til you find it. I suggest you start with your av and firewall apps, if you have them.

What's Running

I am connected to the internet, Norton is loaded, and Mozy. No other applications are loaded. I am considering trying to run with all these off, my core question is why does DD1.3 work fine? Is Armageddon a major change?

I bought it from GamersGate (the only source?). They gave me what they call patches 1.0a, 1.1, and 1.2. Patch 1.0a is only 1.4MB in size, where as the DD1.3 patch is over 17MB. Am I getting the right stuff? I'm concerned about them calling everthing a patch. The info on line says Armegeddon is 22MB. Am I missing the base Armegeddon software?

Help?

Armageddon? No, you can get it from two places. One is gamersgate. Two is HOI2 Anthology box set.

If you got Armageddon from gamersgate, it gets installed via the gamersgate installer, and will be installed to the same directory where DD was installed.

If you got Armageddon from the anthology box set, it will install to its own directory, and not affect your previous DD install.

Armageddon is already patched to v 1.1 from gamersgate. If you installed it correctly to the DD directory it should run and that will be a distinct install (not just a patch). Assuming that install works, you may then patch arma to 1.2 by following the link at gamers gate. Note, there are two different links (on the dd forum) to the patch 1.2; one is for those who have gamersgate install of arma, and another is for those with the anthology version.

If you properly installed arma from gamersgate, I don't believe that you can continue to play DD, because IIRC arma overwrites it. So based on the information you supplied, I'd say you either installed arma to the wrong place, or it was not installed properly by the gamersgate install.

Correct!

Gamersgate confused me. I was only installing the patches to DD. For some reason, the patches 'ran' fine and the application would start up; but crashed on scenerio loading. I unistalled everything, loaded DD, patched it to 1.3, loaded Arm, and patched it to 1.2. Everything is working fine now. Thanks for all the help!

Hi.

I too are having a problem getting arma to work. I downloaded it from GG and installed the latest patch. When I try to start the game I get an error message: "please install the latest milestone".

Anyone who can help with this?

You may have installed either the patch, or the base arma install, to the incorrect place. Look at this recent thread where someone had the same milestone issue. Please take note of Gaute65's post (#5) in that thread.

1. Did you have a previous install of HOI2-DD that worked?
2. When you installed the GG version of Arma did you install it to the same place (directory) as your existing install of HOI2-DD? It should be installed to the same directory.
3. After you installed Arma, was it playable? Or, did you get the 'milestone' error only after patching?

Answering the questions will help in directing you when you reinstall, since that is what you should do at this point.

I suggest you do the following in the order given:
1. Uninstall using the instructions in the yellow link.
2. Reinstall HOI2-DD and patch it with the latest DD patch. Test it to see that the game works.
3. Use the GG installer to reinstall Arma. Make sure that it is installed to the same directory as was HOI2-DD. You may back up your DD install or copy it so that you have the ability to play it standalone. Because the Arma install will overwrite it. Test to see that you can play the unpatched Arma.
4. Install the Arma 1.2 patch from GG site. Make sure to install it to the same directory that you installed DD and then Arma to. Back up or copy before doing so, if you wish.
5. You should now be able to play Arma.
