Hi, I have been playing HoI for a few months now and cant wait for the sequel! To pass the remaining weeks to the release date I thought I would download The Great War Mod. Unfortunatly I am not very good at computers and have never downloaded a mod of this complexity before. In the instruction guide you provided (thank you for that) it says to use Windows Explorer to click on the Setup.exe then select "repair." I have NO idea where the "repair" option in the setup is, every time I click on it, it has me re-install HoI. I have Windows XP and am very ignorant about most "other than everyday" computer actions. Please feel pity for your fellow HoI enthuisiast and give this Michigander some much appreciated adivce!

thanks again!!!!

It is supposed to reinstall when you repair it, you only have to change where on the computer it is installed.

You can of course just copy-paste the entire HOI file, simpler but SLOW.

I'm actually starting to suspect that the US edition and the European editions of HoI - which had different publishers - also have slightly different installation programs. The instructions were created using the European version, which definitely does have a "Repair" option. Perhaps the Strategy First edition doesn't?

Anyway, what you need to know is this: the TGW mod overwrites standard HoI, so if you want to be able to play both versions without re-installing, you need to have two separate installations of the program on your computer.

1) Yes, you're meant to install the game again - in a different folder. A new one.

2) If the repair button doesn't come up, mess around with the registry. Go to start, click on run, type regedit. In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, go to SOFTWARE, STRATEGY FIRST, HEARTS OF IRON, and remove the flag "Install Path". This is assuming you're using the US version. That would negate the need for clicking on any repair button, as windows doesn't know that HOI has been installed already.
